My parents have dropped off all my old epic models yesterday and I've been looking through them.... There are tonnes and tonnes of chaos... Including no less that 6 great unclean ones? ![]() Anyway I'm considering putting together a 2700 LatD army, now I've got this haul.. So far I'm thinking Daemons cool. They are really what makes this army different. OK..... These are the units I've decided on. Khorne: Lord of Battle 400 Khorne: Daemon Assault Engines 300 Tzeentch: Silver Towers 325 Total 1025 Supported by 3 Stigmatus Covenant Covens 600 (So far 10 stands of mutants and 11 of Guard made, but I can get hold of more guard, or put in big mutants) Total 1625 That gives me 1075 points to outfit these Covens for Daemons and add cool stuff. I've got lying around more big mutants than god himself, but a few less than Primarch, Lots of Ork Trukks which would make good Land Transporters. I'm sure I could convert Spawns, Daemon Princes etc But I have no Guard tanks. except maybe some old rhinos which have been converted at the time into predators, but could easily pass a traitor made Leman Russ's. I also have tonnes of Flamers , Blood Letters and both a Blood Thirster and a Changer of Ways. Can anyone suggest how I outfit these units? |

To me that looks like: 3x Stigmatus Covenant Coven 200Pts/600 (mix of Cultists, Mutants) + as many Big Mutants as you can field , up to 6 per coven, assuming 6 ->+120/360 +3x Daemoinc Pact 25/75 +3x Icon Bearer (convert some) 40/120 That?s what I?d consider basic upgrades ![]() Cost so far: 360+75+120=555Pts, leaving 520 The list is current lacking in AA and mobility. AA is a tough nut, either include Altars or Hydras or Thunderbolts. The latter need a free support slot, which you don?t have, so I?d look at including an Altar. Problem is, you don?t have a Daemon Pool yet, I?d add 2x Greater Daemon 250 7x Lesser Daemon 140 leaving 130 Pts, which would buy a single Altar for any of your formations. you now have 6 avtivations, and 3 relatively large and powerful coven. To mobilize any of these, consider cutting Big Mutants and daemons, possibly cut an Icon form one of the Coven but I predict you?ll regret that under combat conditions... ![]() To get the hang of the list, play a few battles. assault a lot especially with Greater Daemons, don?t expect anything from shooting, better to march than to double! And, to quote the classics: "Attack! is the only order worth remembering" |

I guess from this your going with Wizards in control of each coven? Otherwise your not going to be able to get out the Greater Daemons maximum on 2D3 being 6... or am I missing something in the rules? Current thinking with models I have put together. 2 x Khornate Beast Coven 5 Mutants 1 Magus 6 Big Mutants 1 Icon Bearer upgrade on a big mutant 9 Land Transporters. 1 Hydra Total 500 each 1 x Tzeentch Cabel 11 Traitors 1 Magus 1 Altar Chaos Spawn Total 375 Giving me 300 points of daemons 1 x Greater Daemon 125 8 x Lesser Daemons 160 |

Oops I forgot Daemon Pact.. Need to find 60 pts, from somewhere. So drop the Chaos Spawn. 35 points to go... I would drop down to 6 Lesser Daemons, but that seems a bit little... I wonder if I could find enough Mutants to drop 2 Big guys. which would also free up a transporter. giving me back 50 pts. what do I do with 15pts.... nothing much... maybe add another cultist unit to the Tzeenth Cabal |

Got an idea that will solve your problems ![]() 2700 Pts might be "official" tournament size, but then, you?ll not be playing an offical, GW-organized tournament any time soon, will you? If you aren?t, do a 3000 Pts list and convince your opponents that this is much better. Use the extra 300 Pts to solve all your problems, and there you are, transport, flak, daemons, Big Mutants. ? ![]() Drop me an email if you want my LatD Excel spreadsheet that calculates all your points costs and even adds up activations, nothing fancy but definitely useful... army building in a breeze! |

If you have any Cauldrons of Blood in the collection they make a real good looking Chaos Altar. Jaldon ![]() |

I do have one, if I use it though I will not have 8 assault engine for when I expand my army... I'm looking at an old ork 40K Wartrak chasis as a start. It's about the right size. I just need to find a cabin to control it and something to put on top... It's going to be Tzeentch so any Ideas? |

The banner poles from the 40K Throne of Judgement (or whatever the big Daemonhunter walker thing is called) should work nicely. They have long, vertical banners and are topped by flaming braziers which would be bonfire-sized in Epic. I think the bit costs like $4US and supplies 2 banner poles. |

Hmm.. Don't think I have room for it anymore... Do you think the Altar needs guns or do you think the Daemons/Wizards in the towers on the back will do? I've put the towers off an old dark elf sea dragon from man'o'war onto the back of the thing, which makes it nice and Tzeentch looking. |

Cool. I may still order that sprue for a titan banner. (Incidentally, I checked and it's $3 for a sprue with 2 poles.) Personally, I haven't been worried about guns for any chaos piece that says that it shoots arcane bolts and such. |

It can be anything you want. ?My altar I made goes on the concept of the tower/orb throwing out bolts of energy. ?But if you want cannons, a big sling shot, really nasty point bits, it is up to you. ?Like Neal said. ?Anything with arcane in the name leaves it open to what works for you. -Audrey |
