Would it be legal to teleport 2 ?chosen formations onto a table keeping them out of each others zone of control (to avoid intermingling). Then summon Daemons by one formation to bring the other chosen formation into coherency for a combined assault.

an example

after teleporting:-
formation 1 ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? formation 2 ? ? ? ?
Ch.Ch.Ch.Ch. ? <6cm> ? ? ? ?Ch.Ch.Ch.Ch.

after summoning:-
formation 1 ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Formation 2
Ch.Ch.Ch.Ch. Dmn. <2cm> Ch.Ch.Ch.Ch.

Reason I was thinking this is it would be possible to keep formations out of intermingling just incase of losing strategy roll.

Looks legal to me.

Do the formations have to start within 5 cm before summoning as that happens before the activation roll is made.

Reading through the summoning rules I can't see anything that would not allow this.

Finally a reason to take deamons. That is a very clever idea although I might grumble if (/when) its done against me, I'm sure that I've done worse.

Discussed on the SG boards.

Declare the action before summoning.

No impromptu daemon "bridge" for combined assaults.  You don't know when you declare an assault what the summoning results will be.
