Depends on the force however I find 10mm to be the bomb! Here is a Eureka Miniatures 10mm Orc that I fashioned into a Daemon Prince (it is still being worked on). As you can see it is fine on a strip base.



I was so impressed I bought another for the winged Daemon Prince

I use a single large-ish model that I scratchbuilt (12mm high), plus two Terminator models as his personal retinue. I wouldn't go much larger than that.

I currently use a single scratch-built prince as well, although when i make more i wil probably add a pair of infantry to the base to come into line with the rulebook.

I use Warmaster Chaos character/daemon princes and then put a couple other smaller models on the base, usually a 40mm x 20mm base, to meet the infantry requirement. They look monstrous and cool! Cuz, hey man, it's a *Prince*!

For a TSons DP, I used the body of one of the old minotaur models with the head and shoulders of a Chaos Terminator. I used greenstuff to make a robe and replaced the axe head with a staff head. He has a retinue of terminators with scratch-built glaives and a banner.

For a Slaanesh DP I used a minotaur torso (because the old-school Slaanesh models had minotaur-style heads) with the legs from a Steed of Slaanesh (again, old school Keeper style). I replaced the axe with a sword and put a whip (made from wire) in the fist hand. He has a retinue of beastmen and daemonettes.

Here's my 2 Daemon Princes.


As stated earlier, I've often been left with only the DP (from a Terminator formation) and had it flying around annoying the opposition. The extra armour is great but the extra speed has seen me claim objectives that would not have been claimable with the non-winged DP.

Ok, this leads me to another question.
If a Chaos Lord is an Upgrade and Joins a unit while a Daemon Prince is a unit that joins another unit and replaces the Chaos Lord, how exactly to the Chaos Lord and Daemon Princes work in terms of units?
1) The Chaos Lord upgrade is applied to a stand of troops, which then uses their own profile, with the Chaos Lord's profile added on.
2) The Chaos Lord upgrade is applied to a stand of troops, which then loses their profile and uses the Lord's instead.
3) The Daemon Prince replaces the Lord and his stand of troops and is represented by it's own model.
4) The Daemon Prince replaces the Lord upgrade, the troop stand remains, and the Prince is represented by it's own model.

Probably waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overthinking this, but now I've gotten myself confused

"Replace the unit in the formation that includes the Chaos
Lord or Warlord character with a Daemon Prince unit."

So option 3.

A) I'm not sure my army would be ready by then, I tend to be pretty slow.
B) I'm not a big tournie player. The couple I've been too (neither was an Epic tournament) have been rather depressing un-fun affairs blighted by overly competitive jerks. I like casual or campaign play, organized play tends to be too intense and "important" for my tastes.
