Pardon? I fail to see the difference between the inability to suppress them in a Retinue vs the inability to suppress them in a Terminator formation, with the possible exception that you can teleport the latter everywhere.

However, this is a moot point as I don´t expect AA on Oblits to make a comeback and discussing it is not pertinent to this topic, Proposed Chaos AA -> Desecrator and Stalker.

I still think that both is too much. Looking at the 'core' lists, Guard have Hydras, Orks Flak Wagons and Marines Hunters. Putting AA in a Garrison with any of these armies is sacrificing the mobility (and in one case transport capacity) of the vechicle for a smattering of AA cover, they'll usually be wide open to ay AT weapons the enemy points at the formation and there isn't a better option available when it suits.
Thinking aout it my money is currently on either the Desecrators or the Aircraft alone (with some re-organisation of the force list to allow for varied lists with a fair few planes in).

Then you shouldn't have started this then :-)

I agree with PG the percieved problem was oblits with chosen - and then mainly that they were fearless.

I've always found it reallu difficult to keep flak coverage with them - slow speed, medium range and low in numbers - they tend to protect their formation and thats it (especially in later turns). Also often suppressed due to retinues+especially chosen being used in assaults.

The comparisons with IG - cheap infantry sitting in cover with a hydra, orks with flak that is also their best vehicle and marines where vehicles are included anyway aren't really valid

Somehow the same people who are 40k+fluff driven in other lists supported a completely new vehicles.

Ok, slightly out of context I was talking about AA in Garrisons (and trying to make the point that similar lists can't pick and choose, I don't see any difference between a Marine formation Garrisoned with a Hunter, and a Chaos Marine formation garrisoned with a Stalker).

It's occasionally done with devastators (one of the two ways it's possible to use dreadnoughts, really).

Well, just got back from the game featuring the Desecrators (via the local take away and now munching on some low-quality kebab meat).
My opponent only took one Vampire, so my four desecrators were a bit of overkill, but they did make a pretty good account of themselves, managing to put up a good coverage of AA that at least forced the Vampire to snipe at my flanks rather than face flying into the AA, it was also able to keep up with my titan (before a combination of a grudge from a previous game and some unlucky criticals killed it, yes this was the Ravager mentioned elesewhere on the forum), and worked particularly well as part of a formation consisting of 4 vindicators and two Desecrators (this formation shifted a Guardian formation out of cover, and put two damage on a Phantom Titan, and didn't take a single casualty in return).
A formation of Hell Talons acquitted themselves much better however, putting a point of damage on the Vampire, breaking a Void Spinner and stacking up blast markers on an Eldar Superheavy that was contesting my blitz objective).

A more detailed battle report will follow (tomorrow probably), but feedback from my opponent was that he certainly preferred them to the Obliterators he had faced in the past, and didn't see them as signifcantly different to AA from other armies.

The new stats from the playtest changes, one 30cm lascannon and 1BP bombs each, the havoc launcher never came into play as they were always shooting at war engines.
