Using fluff reasons for a Defiler formation's use in a battle upon a set of Epic:A rules is usually going to end in disaster. If we boost the formsation up to 6 and use it the way people want, then it would be a very expensive points sink.

After balancing the stats against the cost and viability, keeping them hidden and attacking where appropriate in a game of Epic shooting is the only way. Unfortunately, too many people get carried away with Gradma Wendy's fanciful stories of how things act and survive.

It may be appropriate for a skirmish game, yet very different at the level Epic is based at.

The only other viable alternative is RA in my opinion. Less of a points sink giving them that little bit more staying power.

I think that is the path that is going to attract the most 'that unit is broken' exclamations from opponents

Agreed, Dex. Plus you also make it more nasty in close combat so its price should go up. What about 5?

i like the inv save with no RA. it makes those 6's seem more daredevil and chaos fueled :)

If you have played Chaos recently, you will know that 350 point formations will seriously change your army list. Add into that the cost increase on the Helltalons, and you have reduced activations.

If there is a change, I would petition for upgrades to the base 4, without increasing the current base cost.

Then again, are we all using the correctly?

That doesn't really strike me as what they do in a chaos army though. Wouldn't they be up the front and in your face kill everything machines? I dunno, to me binding a daemon into a machine doesn't really strike me as the kind of "sit back in the rear and wait" kinda unit.

I consider them kinda like Dreadnoughts, in that GW's background texts & 40k depict them charging around on foot beating things up in CC, wheras when you zoom out to Epic scale you see how daft that is. At Epic scale, they're best employed as guard-dogs.

Do they say this for other Daemon Engines? They have RA.
