Would Daemonic Beasts (e.g. Flesh hounds) and/or cavalry be an upgrade for a Daemonhost, or a formation on their own?

A formation on their own. There isn't a Daemonhost model so I'd not want to add the unit

Sorry, I didnt mean daemonhost as in those that are used by the radical inquisitors; I meant it as in a host of daemons, i.e. the formation of lesser daemons!  :oo:

No Fury model means no Furies in the list

Too cool to use Warmaster Harpies?

The decision to limit the list to existing models is a very limiting one. Furies and other such units are certainly part of the daemonic pantheon these days, and you'd really have to go a long way to say that a unit isn't possible to find a proxy.

I would recommend to design the list - especially at this brainstorming stage - with everything it should have. If there's anything that is flat out impossible to find a model for, then maybe consider dropping it later. By resolutely refusing to consider anything without an existing model really limits the list for those who WOULD like to convert or scratch build stuff.

One thing I was thinking of is daemonic chariots (possibly again drawing on the warmaster range?)

Anyway, soulgrinders:
"[Soul Grinders] are the fusion of the most powerful of daemonic entities with machines of war that originate from outside the Immaterium, but have already felt the touch of Chaos. These are often the wrecked remains of great Daemon engines and other possessed vehicles, like the mighty Battle Titans of the Legio Mortis, or the rampaging Defilers created by the Traitor Legions."

So basically, any War Engine in the BL or LATD list is fair game as the basis for a Daemonic version, in particular the titans and daemon engines.

I actually think Greater Daemons should just have one statline and I would leave the role of giant-war-machine titan things to these soul grinder constructs.

I for one really dislike army lists where I have to either proxy 3/4's of the units or spend a fortune on eBay to get collector's figs.

There are a significant number of existing minis that gamers can use and I think that even with that "limited" number of units that the list will have a ton of options.

The list will have some "collectors" stats for things like Fiends and Beasts of Nurgle etc but I think it would be irresponsible to build an army list that only an epic collector could properly field.

Yup. If you have access to them you can proxy them for Daemonic Constructs if you don't want to build your own

I was thinking that formations could be anywhere from 6 to 12 units with there being some possible bonus (Augment Summoning or something fluffy) if you bought a formation that was that Factions sacred number.

Brilliant idea I say keep it like that with the points costs mentioned earlier :agree:
With the heralds possibly make them leader, augment summoning (+1?) and the MW CC or FF? Keeping it simple you could have
Khorne: +1 CC, +1 CC MW
Nurgle: +1 CC MW (reinforced armour on upgraded unit?)
Slaanesh: +1 FF MW First strike
Tzeentch: +1 FF MW, +1 FF
Icons simply as daemonic focus

No Fury model means no Furies in the list
Warmaster harpies are the easiest way to proxy these and don't look bad either :) but there are no daemon chariot minis

I agree with the daemon constructs idea if you don't want to scratchbuild just use existing daemon engine models

I think they look like hell to be honest. I only had them in my Warmaster Chaos army because one really was required to play with flyers or you go owned.

:) but there are no daemon chariot minis

I think the chariots in the 40K codex are an odd inclusion. Not sure why they kept them. Perhaps so someone could use the upcoming WFB minis in their 40K force?

Well, I think this army list is a very bad idea to begin with before fixing the daemons in the Chaos list. It's the same than making renegade legions with cultists marines while the "main" list isn't fixed.
