Hello all,

We've been working on the beta rulebook in it's current form since April 2012. It's now ready for a public beta. At TacComms you've been with us since we launched in 2005 and I want to thank you for all your support. Steel Crown Productions moved from a hobby to a full blown incorporated company with permanent staff in 2011 and we are still growing.

When the beta finishes we'll be launching a full range of miniatures, with a remastered range of Guild units (new infantry mainly) and a massively expanded Royal Empire range.

As always, I hold the opinions of the TacComms community in very high regard and would love to know your thoughts on our rules. If you see anything you don't like then I'd be keen to see what it is and why.

We will eventually print the rules, however we fervently believe in having the rules and army books as a free download for the lifetime of SCP. We hope to get some counters made up as well, so players without miniatures can try the game before they buy armies.

The beta rules are without art at the moment, we do have awesome art done for us by Randy Linbourn but until we've got the rules set in stone we are trying to keep the graphical side of it to a minimum. This will help us as we do editing.

Once again - it is a beta so be warned, it will contain typos and errors.

I hope you enjoy them ;).

Oh, I also like the hint that there will be a boxed set - can you give us more on info on that?

Only the basics, it'll feature two complete armies (the new Guild and Marcovian armies), dice and a 'lite' rulebook. We are also investigating terrain options. Ruined buildings and the like.

I think I found something that looks odd, though I'm not sure it's what you're after:

You state that "For formations consisting of Stands with differing C&C ratings, the averaged C&C rating is rounded up."

However, on the command and control section, a few paragraphs below, you state that an order test is passed on a modified roll that is equal to or betterthan the best C&C score of a formation. This seems to be contradictory to the rule I quoted. Am I interpreting it wrong?

Good find, I've always gamed using the second rule. What do you guys prefer?

Looks good can't wait to give it a try.

I noticed that there is an upgrade for dragon squires but can't find the actual unit. Also the guild pyro tanks says the formation is 5 Achilles MBT should this be 5 prometheus?

I have a question around the special rules section. On page 37 the rules state that if a unit is firing and some models don't have the rule you can't fire them. My understanding is if I have a unit of 5 Prometheus assuming the entry upgrades are the same as the Achilles formation. If I take the trident I cannot fire the procannons on the Prometheus using the ignore cover and the tridents gauss in the same turn. Is this correct?

What software are you writing it in, BTW? I've noticed a lot of headings ending up on different pages than their content, and I know how to fix that easily in Word but not in other software. :)

Correct, this should be 5 Prometheus Pyro Tanks.

Fair point, how does this sound?
"In the event that stands have differing abilities then only the stands that are capable of performing the action successfully may do so."

For example:
If a Prometheus Pyro Tank formation with a Trident upgrade fires at at a Battle Squire squadron lurking in the woods, then you could fire as usual but the Battle Squires would still enjoy the benefits of a cover save against the Trident Tank Destroyer.
