Post subject:  Porting Epic Compendium Lists to Exodus Wars

Not sure if I should post this in the EA forums or here (mods-move if appropriate)

So with Epic getting thrown under the bus and the recent arrival of the Exodus Wars rules beta which are admittedly inspired from the Epic Armageddon rules is there any desire to port some of the lists/units from the Compendium to this? The hardest part will be the D6 to D10 expansion but that also allows for some corrections / enhancements to be made as well. There's plenty of places where say a stat value of N is too string but the unit should be stronger than N-1 (LR Crusader I look at thee).

So this something people are interested in?

Most definitely! Good idea Jimmy! :)

I really like the idea of D10s rather than D6s being rolled.

This is a brilliant idea. I was put off getting in to EW after having committed just over a week ago printing out all the epic rules. But This would soften the blow greatly. I thought about it myself , but I dont have any where near enough rules experience to even attempt something like this. But if some one else would sort a list out, say for interest, I don't know, perhaps, lets say GREENSKINS, then I'd be all over this like a rash!

I wouldn't want EW to force their game to fit in all of the grim dark, otherwise they might as well just stick to epic, but it would be wonderful to include a few of the fantasy fare sci-fi armies, even at a basic level, at least so we could proxie what we already had. I think it would help people that prefer the fantasy side get involved in EW- whilst still allowing EW to make the universe that they want!

Well mechanics + stats are separate from lists / cost structure so we're good on the shoehorning EW to fit us. It simply gives an alternative "host" for lack of a better term to the environment the miniatures are used in. Somewhat like people using Firestorm Armada ships / races as ported lists to the BFG mechanics they are more comfortable with.

I wouldn't ever suggest trying to balance them against "native" Exodus Wars lists/factions but as long as they're logically consistent among themselves it's kosher.

I'm sticking to Net Epic-A myself, whatever GW do, but each to their own

OK I got some down time away from the kids coming up so I'll bring the tablet with me and start some basic ports.

This thread is of pertinence to the conversation. The Crusader is a trouble unit for EA in my opinion.

Here's a start to make sure I have the basic patterns, layout, conventions, and D6-D10 expansion correct. It is most of the Codex Marines list units sans CH and AC.

Most of the special abilities were easy to port (Scout to Recon, Reinforced Armour to All-round Armour).
Noticeable was there was nothing that fit for Mounted ability. We'll discuss that later. I have a question about weapons that only work in Melee on the nomenclature we should use. I couldnt see an example in the existing rules to base it on so we'll ask about that. In addition, the MW/DC conversion for Assaults for units like the Land Speeder were applied as a Unit specialty which should convey to the unit in all forms. Technically this appears I am bending the RAW but feel I am following the RAI.

Looks like an excellent start to me Jimmy! The ranges for shooting seemed a little shorter than I would have expected but I realised that this is because I am used to playing NetEpic rather than E:A! I hadn't noticed just how short the ranges are for E:A, I'm assuming the change was to encourage players to get their units into closer proximity to their opponents rather than sitting still and exchanging fire across a wider expanse of the board.

Great work sir!

Basically everything in EA is an abstraction and not precisely what you see and not in scale to the models. For instance a building isn't just a building; its a town or a whole complex. 15 cm is the extreme limits , at best, of a large table in a 40k game. Yada Yada Yoda.

EW follows somewhat in that path as well.

Interesting concept, may be difficult for me to break the habit of a lifetime and think in those terms because I've always taken the battlefield terrain/mniatures scale rather literally!
