I've managed to convert another player to Epic (hooray!), and he's looking at using EW minis for a Guard army.

I think you can build an internally consistent army using EW minis, but there's one big issues - the tanks. The EW Guild has plenty of options for all the chimera-based vehicles, but the MBT shares the same hull. He thinks about using Gladius transports as chimeras, but I think it would work better to use the standard EW chassis as chimera-chassis, and find something else for the tanks. But what?

Any good suggestions for Leman Russ proxies for an EW/IG army?

Why not use Hoplons as Chimeras? Or add spare sponsons from the Enforcer / Exterminator packs to the sides?

The sponsons have merit.

I'm sceptical to using anything else as chimera as that's the "workhorse" chassis for the Guard - every kind of non-MBT they have is based on the chimera chassis (basilisks, manticores, hellhounds, salamanders, griffons etc etc etc). So using the standard EW chassis as chimera makes a lot of sense, but the MBTs ends up having the same hull even though they're 4+RA vs the 5+ standard save of the rest of the vehicles.

There is pretty much enough Exodus Wars models to filll in for most if not all IG models ... There is a prosed proxie list some where on Tac Cmd, if you need ideas ... I'm using the Hector for my Chimeras ...

SG did a Minervan army with EW tanks, take a look back through his painting threads.

Thanks for the tip, Dave! Lots of inspiration.

Although SG did skip over the issue of Chimeras and Russes looking similar.

That's what held me back. That and both an E40k and an SM/TL era IG army sitting in storage. :P

I like the EW stuff. I actually sold my Necron army and replaced it with Exodus Wars Edenites. The only reason I go with Games-Workshop stuff most of the time is because I am always thinking ahead toward the next fan supplement and I need to use GW stuff only for those. However, with Raiders behind me I have been liberated enough to get the nicer looking models (EW).

Yeah, the EW stuff rocks for IG I think. It's just that Leman Russ-shaped hole in the lineup.

There are other lines. No reason to stick exclusively to EW if that one model is your problem. And I doubt EW would mind if you bought 96% of your stuff from them. 8)

So you're saying I should have posted this in some other part of the forum.

Some of the Dystopian Wars tanks would make good Russ hulls. It requires a bit more conversion work to make a turret fit though, and also the style is a bit different, as the resin models hold more detail and thus tends to have more rivets. But I suppose you could work around it by using EW turrets in an attempt to tie the different models together visually.

I did skip that, but I don't find it a huge problem. If you need them to differ, throw Paris or Hector turrets on a Hoplon or Gladius. I'd prefer to use the common chassis myself.
