Saw a post on the ever excellent egroup [6mmScienceFictionWarGames] from a chap asking for Army Packs.

What do you guys reckon? Do you prefer army packs or buying individual formations?

I will occassionally buy an army pack if it offers a decent sort of saving.

Otherwise I just pick and choose individual items.

An army pack that either is very good value or very good selection is always considered.

Hmm, if I was looking for a lot (3-4 packs and above... which has been my previous orders lately) and the pack had pretty much what I needed and I could saved some money then yeah I would go for it. Then I'd buy even more stuff with the savings... I'm just weak that way.

I think that says it all. I'm willing to spend so and so on a new army. If I find a good base deal both parties get more satisfied. I get to battle and you get to see your models in battle reports.
To small forces tend to not get onto the field.

Oh, and seriously, I love army packs, especially if they're well rounded and a good savings over buying individual packs.  One thing I'd like to see would be a "Chinese menu" army pack deal, where you could pick, say, one main force, two support formations, and two auxiliary formations for one price.  Then the manufacturer would have a selection of the three;  main forces might comprise an armor company, mech infantry company, walker company, wheeled company, etc., support formations might include mech infantry platoon, light infantry platoon, anti-tank platoon, sapper platoon, artillery platoon, etc., and auxiliary formations might include air defense section, mortar section, recon section, VTOL section, ELINT section, etc.

So, savings *and* flexibility!  Plus it entices the buyer to spend more, which is the point of an army pack from the retailer's point of view, so a win-win.  This is why I need to quit my day job and open a game store.  Who's with me??

I love army packs in principle, but all too often they include some models I'm really not into. In those cases, it usually works out that  can get the ones I want for less than the deal. Javelin98's idea would be very effective at getting me to spend more.

:) I'm into some of that action. Jav's idea sounds great.

You know what chaps - Javelin may well be a genius, I've plundered his idea and gone one step further.

On April the 1st, not only will we be releasing two army deals but they'll be uber flexible.

The deals are:

Guild Demi Legion
(Pick any 3 of the below items for 10% off)
Guild Legion Assault Centuria
Guild Legion Line Centuria
Guild Legion Myrmidon Centuria
Guild Legion Support Centuria

Guild Legion
(Pick any 10 of the below items for 20% off)
Guild Legion Assault Centuria
Guild Legion Line Centuria
Guild Legion Myrmidon Centuria
Guild Legion Support Centuria

Of course people will be able to mix and match between the Centuri as they feel fit, some time soon we'll do the MEchanised Demi Legion and Legion too.

We are working on the Armoured Legion... but that is bit further away... not too far though, keep your eyes peeled.
