I died at page 7 of the thread. Is there a big KV howitzer (or even GW ragnarock) turret option (or a way to make those ugly things easily). If so the siegemaster armoured core will slowly roar off into the mud!

Oh - in other news, to celebrate my birthday, 10% discount on all EW, and free postage over £50 for the next week at least.

Man, you really know how to tempt me!  :vD  Since I didn't buy anything for myself on my birthday (which was May 21st), maybe I'll buy some EW minis now.

Something like this?

Not exactly a KV turret but more of an artillerypiece. But it might be passable as a Ragnarok, Griffon, Medusa, Bombard or even Demolisher proxy.

Looks more reminiscent of the WWII 'dustbin' shooter :)
Actually not a real problem, they are amongst the ugliest and most easy of turrets to build (being after all a box the soviets put round the workings of a large gun).

Well it was meant to be some weird cross between a Karl siege mortar and Sturmtiger. Cut off the elevation mechanism, perhaps add a bit of plasticard to the sides and extend the barrel slightly and it will probalbly be passable as a KV style turret.

I thought WMN was the public relations arm of this venture, but he asked me to present 3, 3, 3 choices for the gun swivel on the upcoming Trident tank hunter. We thought they were equal in merit, so what you think?

I don't think I like any of them all that much. the fist has promise, and the third needs more detail. Maybe similar to the Mars pattern BB demolisher cannon shield.

The last version would get some additional details added. We were just fiddeling around with various ideas and wanted opinions of the basic shapes. Thanks for the feedback so far :)

Which is best at taking a hull-down position on a hill?

In general, I'd think that the design philosophy for sci fi vehicles would reflect the modern adage -- "see it, hit it; hit it, kill it."  But perhaps things will have changed.

One concern with a WWII look is that WWII SPguns were - generally - designed for economy, not efficiency.  Wartime desperation and labor shortages explain why the Russians and Germans went for the stug III and the Su-100, respectively -- "we've got a lot of obsolete chassis kicking around, how can we make them effective?"  The U.S. and Britain, for the most part, did not -- Detroit was able to crank out turrets and turret gearing undisturbed.

The backstory of modularity for the guild would help explain some design flaws and 'shortcuts' -- which is why it wouldn't necessarily look like an S-tank remix, but I'd expect that it would tend in that direction rather than toward a Sturmtiger/Jpz VI.
