I see. I wonder how much of a problem it would be for a modern tank which is, after all able to track a moving target while itself moving...unless it litterally sends the entire tank spinning...in which case you'd better build a heavier tank or fit a smaller gun with less recoil

Hm. Would make an interesting method of manouvering: "Sir. We need to turn left!" "Alright. Rotate the turret and open fire..."

Modern tanks can fire while moving using gyro-stabilization & computers (of course) ...  A tank is heavy enough and designed to fire while on the move and hit a target ...   The turret placement is fine ... take my word for it ...

Pretty much all modern tanks have the gun turret centrally located.

The only things with large calibre guns offset from the centre of mass these days tend to be forwards firing artillery, I believe.

Putting the gun on the centre of mass gives you the most stable firing platform whilst on the move, as it wouldn't pitch up and down so much (and is thus easier to auto-stabilise).

Yes, all that is true ... based on our technology. But in the future Computer Stabilization may be more efficient.  And I've see gun camera footage of an M1 going over rough terrain and the gun remains locked on target regardless ...

I've seen it for challengers which is why they like to stop first if possible

There is also more mundane stuff like weight on the tracks and trying to even it out for all terrain driving and suchlike.

Still, twas all because I made a harmless comment about the effect on the rules for its main gun in Epic

Very true TRC ... but its a nice option to have ...    We still used the SM1 rule for AFVs - On CHG Orders : -1 to hit, on FstFire : +1 to hit, on ADV: ... only makes sense ...
