Sorry chaps - had a somewhat surreal week without internet access :S.

The SPAOG is looking mighty fine, I guess the real question is does it use actual shells or is it a laser weapon? Most of the Guild units use laser ordinance which precludes the use of an ammo belt.

In this case though I am pretty sure we can fit the fluff to fit the model. I am a huge fan of the 'unless it looks cooler' rule.

So what do you reckon chaps, belt or no belt?

On that note, I clicked the 'go to newest unread post' button and it brought me to page 10 of 9.

TBH, no belt.

If it's a laser weapon, it won't need multiple barrels. Multiple barrels implies a high ROF projectile weapon.

Although a double barrelled laser doo-dad sounds pretty neat, yes?

Well, I had a root canal, my car got plundered by burglars, and Bella turned into a drama queen, but I still managed to produce engines of doom and destruction.

So, chin up, my brutha.

No, I can see a need for a high-ROF 'gatling' laser, the same reason for gatling guns:  cooling.  If each individual laser pulse is intense enough to significantly heat the lasing apparatus, then you'd need a cooling mechanism of some kind (you certainly do now, they're just at the stage of liquid-cooling).  *IF* a high-speed 'gatling' configuration could be lighter than an equivalent liquid-cooling rig, then you'd see gatling lasers.

Gatling version with belt please.

Belt it is then.

The belt doesn't have to holding ammo, it could be gas reactant, cooling or whatever technofluff we deem necessary for the device.

Hehe, at least it's easier to remove bits than add them :).

I for one like a design where I can see where the reloads come from....too many Epic weapon designs are apparently one shot weapons.

Good point. Now I'm curious as to how I would make a cooling apparatus...

Nah, pulsing has already gone down to nanosecond bursts, and an efficient laser-type gun could pulse so fast no amount of rotation could keep up with it. Our old monster CO2 laser manages 5millisecond pulses (5ms on, 5ms off), and it's at least 10 years old now.

So no Gatling. Too unrealistic.... a laser with 6 barrels WOULD FIRE ALL BARRELS AT ONCE      :vD  :vD

Cooling - the coolest (oww, puns unmoderated by coffee ARE painful!) way would be to go for large cylinders of liquid nitrogen and thick industrial piping to deliver the coolant.
