Given that it's still a plane I always wondered why the Marauder had a 4+ save while the smaller, faster and more maneuverable thunderbolt had merely a 6+ save.

2DC with a save 5+ seems better suited here to me.  The lower save because its slow but the higher DC because it's the 40k equivalent to a flying fortress.

What do yo guys think?

I would like a fair bit of change (old thread), but failing that am with Neal.

250 for starters - if thats not enough BP to 3.

I'd decrease points, and also up to DC-2, in order to differentiate it from the Marauder fighters.


They'd still be worse than other comparable artillery, but might at least be worth considering if you know you can get one round's worth of shooting out of them (DC-2)

DC2 (whatever the save) and 3BP.
Marauders are massive planes with a great payload of bombs. They should be able to take damage (DC2) and make damage, even with a single plane (3BP).
By now, they are a 300pts formation what is fragile, cannot hold ground, cannot sustain fire, and pretty useless if reduce to 1 plane.

G'day..

I voted for the increase to DC2 and change save to 5+. I will start trialling this stat change tonight when i give CAL a game. At DC2 a Critical will result in control surface damage.. and so on causeing death?

I'll keep the points at 300 to start with and see how that goes.

Just 250 for the current values (1DC, 2BP) doesn't change anything, because they won't be used.

I will use 2 squadrons of Tbolts over 250 pts Marauder squadron. More flexibility, more tactical usage and more survivability.

Agreed. It'll still be an inferior unit in enough situations that it'll remain a bad choice.

2DC is essential I think, with 3BP a possibility. 300pts would seem about right there, considering how vulnerable they'd still be.

Well what about 3bp, 250 a pair. That removes the 2/3's firepower loss when you lose a plane.
