First match against LatD with roughly the following list:

Coven+Altar+SC+2 Hydras+Krimskrams
Coven+Land transports+2hydras+2Leman Russ plus Krimskrams
Coven same as above
Slaanesh knights
2 Subjugator scout titans
6 Leman Russ battle tanks
Plague zombie infestation
some smaller and one greater Deamon

We had a big ruin city in the middle of the battlefield, on the left side a real big wood and on the right side an ork village protected by a small river about 60cm long (selfmade ;) )

Battle progress:
my tank companies tried to slip through the small gaps between the terrain features and pounded some covens. We hat a real running battle while pushing forward my second tank company reached his Blitzkrieg in turn 3. A real big problem was the scout titan detachment. Without a single MW or even TK weapon I tried to crossfire them, but after two rounds of concetrated fire on them every titan remained with 1 DC left. Vultures and Tbolts sucked massively(the one because getting primary target and limited LOS and the others through heavy AA and bad luck with my activation rolls) :)

won narrowly 2:0 but only because the subjugators failed to rip apart my tank company in a critical moment.

Second match against oddboy heavy Orks:

Gargant + Warlord
?ge Blitz Brigade: 12 Dethcoptas
?ge Blitz Brigade: 3 Flakwagons, 3 ZZappgunz, 6 Gunwagons
?ge Blitz Brigade: 3 Flakwagons, 3 ZZappgunz, 6 Gunwagons
normal Warband: 3 Flakwagons, 3 Gunwagons
Ork Landa
Stormboyz Warhorde+4 Kommandoz
3 Fighter Bomber

Terrain was set up with three medium hills (on in every third of the battlefield), a small wood on the left and some buildings on the left hill and the right battlefield-third.

Battle progress:
Tank comanies were set up on the middle third and right third. He won activation an pounded my vultures, one hydra is really not enough to stop them cold. His blitz brigades hurled toward my tank companies, supported by a real nasty gargant.  Deth coptas and Warband tried to get into cover. Dethcoptas were shot by Stormtroopers and assaulted to death in second turn (with a little help from a lonely Warhound). My tank companies took heavy losses and were on the brink of breaking (zzapguns even on double are hell, also MW templates). I only won the battle because my Tbolts on CAP luckily made one DC damage to the Landa....and a critical. Else the Landa would have crushed my tank company on the right flank and the following crumble of the frontline would have forced me to loose the game for sure......lucky air-aces :D

Won 2:0 due the lack of ability of my counterpart to stop both companies at the same time. The second tank company was finally stopped by the gargant in a very effective manner. (6 vehicles left, but only 4 russes+salamander+Hydra). Without the lucky shot of my T-bolts......the result would be quite different.

Summary:

The tank company feels good to play with, but the armament of the command vehicle simply doesnt fit into the standard Russ company. I got no shot off with three of these vehicles in 2 full games. They only enlarged the size of my company to 12 (which helped alot and saved me two times from breaking).

I don?t know what to do with the Guard Platoon. They are small, die like hell and their transport vehicles hinders them to use cover effectively. I am really considering to exchange them for something else. (lone Stormtroopers and a scout platoon?)

Wolf pattern Warhound was simply not worth his points. Even with our terrain feature heavy battlefield and his walker ability I got no real chance to set ablaze even one or two infantry units with the short ranged flamer. (Death poll: one death copter and one DC on the gargant). This armament is even more mixed than the standard pattern of the wolfhound. If you get lone infantry, you have to get close and the light turbolaser really sucks against them, if you battle AV, you have to be really lucky to get down one or two gunwagons, as the flamer template is useless. Dissatifying.

Else my combatants stated, the list seemed to be balanced. The only thing they didn?t know before the matches was the Salamander and the Wolf pattern. Else it feels like IG with more vehicles, nothing to blame about.

Great report Soren! :)

I'll be running an update to the list at some point in the next week.

Oh a note btw: Nobody will buy two tank destroyers for 200pts if he can get a Shadowsword and a free activation for 175.

AND

I played the Vultures Standard configuration from Steel legion list. Rocket pods on them make no sense to me, as my Valkyries already have them mounted

That's a similar list to what I've been considering as well.  I'm glad it did well for you!  My only real concern is getting some TK in the list.

The rocket pods are evidently a typo.  They'll probably be fixed in the next update...

Unless you get into an assault, the Salamander Command vehicle is really only going to help by removing the occasional extra BM and being an extra target.

Yes the 175pts is a typo.

Hena outlines the reasons for taking Destroyers over Shadowswords quite elegantly.

You will not have problems with your support slots. Tank companies are so expensive, you always have some spare slots to spend.(not more or less issue than in a normal Steel Legion list).

The second thing, to get the Tank destroyer really effective you have to shoot on Titans or reinforced targets. With one Tank Destroyer in your formation you loose considerable Russ firepower. AT4 shot (even TK) is not that good for the points, no sidearms nor normal armament and on double you miss 2/3 of the time with a one shot weapon. Even the Zzzap gun for +50pts is better. Would prefer a Shadowsword all over the time.

Soren, how did your opponent feel about the list?  I'm always curious about the enemy's perspective since playing a list can sometimes blind us to whether it is balanced.  Being on the receiving end tends to paint a different picture.  :)

None of my opponents feeled the list overpowered or broken. As most units are already known to them, it feels like a Steel legion list with supreme commander attached to tanks. Like I?ve said, both were very close games and lady luck rolled the right dices, so nobody of them had anything to complain about the list :D
