I have seen a really beautifully painted 6mm English Boer war type Imperial Guard army painted with the Pith helmets, red jackets and the white trousers. Absolutely beautiful. I believe the army was 3D printed, but I knoiw Baccus Minis do a great range of Brirtish Colonial troops including lancers, marhcing and firing infantry, Dragoons, crewed cannon, crewed gatling guns, even hiland infantry marching and firing.

I was wondering if there was a separate army list for these Praetorian Guard Imperial Guardsmen, or whether they would have to use a generic Imperial Guard list.

I would use any of the existing guard lists. I don't see any need for a dedicated list for them. They have different looking uniforms but don't have any 40k rules or distinctive characteristics or anything to differentiate them gamewise.

Okay so there is not a Praetorian list then. Which list would be the most neutral list about. One where they have infantry autocannons, infantry lascanons, lasrifle infantry, an then nothing too thematic or specialist - just a basic bland guard list.

Specialist I am talking about DKoK, Heavy Mechanised, Elysian.

So what are my options for a generic Guard army? I like the Voystran Firstborn list, the Valhallan list is also quite good, and I sort of like the Armageddon Steel legion except for the Hive world conscripts.

Steel Legion is the default, and the most generic one, but it doesn't contain any Hive World Conscripts.

Infantry Lascannons are just rolled into the generic 'Autocannon' for IG, but you could always use the models for the Support Squads to differentiate them more from the normal infantry.

Sorry I meant the Hive Militia Platoon, which seem to be just a cheap conscript type of trooper, as they do not get autocannons for every second unit. They also have very poor stat line, and do not cost much at all.

I think I will use the Voystran First Born army list, as I am also looking at making a Heavy Mechanised Imperial Guard army list, and can reuse the Crassus which means the Heavy mechanised army will be painted in red and tan colours. I could always use the Steel legion list and not use the Hive militia platoon option. The red will be out of place thoughwith Armageddon Steel legion.

Which Steel Legion list are you talking about? Neither the NetEA nor EpicUK lists have a hive militia or conscript formation.

I don't know what you're talking about because none of that exists or existed in SL list (which goes back to the original rulebook). You're also weirdly convinced that the name of the list means that's what you need to paint your models like. It's a list for doing a mechanized infantry force, as exemplified by the eponymous regiment, regardless of whatever actual concrete army you're modeling in your force. Use the Heavy Mech force (which by the way is modeled on Cadian armies from IA11 if you're caught up on paint) because you like how it plays, not because of the name. Same with Cadian, SL, Tallarn, or any number of named lists in the game which can be used with any regimental colors.

I want a fairly bland Imperial Guard army to use for the British colonial /zulu wars type infantry available from Baccus Minis. I want to paint them Red and white/tan so they can be multi purpose. The specialist armies such as cav/drop, DKoK, etc are ones I want to avoid, as there are minis already for them, and I already have a Cav/Drop army.

I thought the Vostroyan Firstborn army which is a gorgeous Fan made list is perfect, and I did not want to use the Armageddon Steel legion list for my own reasons. I already have plans to build a Heavy Mechganised guard army. which will have Crassus, Praetors, Salamanders and Centaurs as part of the army.

I noticed the Vostroyan first born army elements I painted for my iron fist platoon - part of my Paramar Drop regiment army, are p[ainted red and their tanks are red and tan. With this theme I have decided to use the Vostroyan list I found on this website. Thanks, I just wanted to know if anyone had made a specific army list for the Praetorians or if I had to decide on using a generic Guard army instead.

My question is answered, adn I will have deciuded on what I wil base the army on.
