Has anyone given this list a run? I have the models and like the theory and modelling possibilities of the list but it just seems to lack punch with so much infantry and no heavy hitters like Death Strikes, Armour Companies, War Engines etc.

How would someone win with it? Does anyone have any insight?

Hi Dobsy,

Firstly thanks for the game at Cancon, it was great to fight a list without thunderhawks.

I have played this list quite a few times, I do believe they may need one more unit to be able to pack that punch that is needed sometimes (but I don't think it should be deathstrikes).

I would also like the list to be able to take three veteran support per main company not the two. Also maybe up to three Ogryn units not the two.

Ogryns always seemed fitting in Catachan list.

Just getting back to this again, as I just received my Air Cav Coy Valks and Vults! YAY!

I have some more questions. :) Just theory right now of course. Not even sure who's looking after the list - if anyone.

Looking through this more carefully, how would people see the army getting around the table given there are no transports apart from the Air Cav and the odd Valks upgrade? It looks very static and lacks what normal guard armies get i.e chimeras (for numbers and shooting).

AA is very light on as well. Could perhaps some of the formations get Hydras? Perhaps the Hellhounds and/or Demolishers?

Also some of the points costs look incorrect. e.g Marauders for 300. Should these be adjusted?

Could Ogryns get access to Valks and/or perhaps remove the 0-2 option?

Rug, here's what I'd written up a while back but thought I'd post it here for general feedback. It's only the changes I would make to the current list not a full army list.

The one thing I'm not sure about is the Melta Guns on the Catachan Devils but it's designed to help deal with armour because of the lack of heavy armour and artillery.

Anyhoo, feedback appreciated.

Cheers

Should the mortars have an AT value?? I see them as the light man-portable version, AP only.

I do remember a special rules from ages back which was they got to use cover saves when assaulting to represent their love of the jungle...

Oh that iteration had booby traps as well and the ability to place 4 patches of jungle on the table prior to picking sides :)
But the booby traps back then were anyone entering a piece of terrain with Catachens in had to make dangerous terrain tests (so like minefields).

Well lacking artillery, I thought perhaps an abstract of the mortars hitting tanks like artillery but with piss-weak to hit values would be a fair option. The best you'd ever get is a 5+ which is base to-hit for artillery. Plus you wouldn't get Barrage templates which would mean more stringent range-stretching and far less targets to hit as there's a max of 6 shots instead just placing a template over as many as you can.

JZ, can I ask why you don't like the BT rule?

The booby trap idea was to counter the lack of the Chimeras shooting in prep or OW but obviously specific to defence only. Also the lack of mobility (apart from the Air Cav coy) means the infantry would be largely defensive.

In regards to the additional Jungle idea, I believe the Chans and DWVs don't just fight on Jungle worlds so I tried to simulate a more generic effect on all terrain.
