The IG Steel Legion list that follows has had very solid results in the EUK tournaments its owner (Richard) has participated.
I am interested in knowing what are the underyling strategies he employs with them, what objectives he pursues, what are hsi deployment options, etc.
It's an interesting list for me, as it's based on Mechanized infantry, and our IG players don't usually go for that type of unit.
Cheers,
Richard Laking' Steel Legion Regimental HQ+Hydra Tank Company+Hydra Mech Co+Hydra Basilisks Sentinels Sentinels Hydras
Titan/Air Third Warhound Warhound Thunderbolts

Basically the mech co +HQ provide FF support, the warhounds trigger assaults with them in support. Tank co moves forward and tries to force the opponent to have to deal with it not ignore it.
In my experience the HQ and 1-2 mech co are vital for SL and this tactic is optimal for the list

Thank you for the answer.
Would you say the Warhounds are tantamount to this strategy, or could they be replaced by another formation?

Warhounds are fast, reasonably resilient, and have a small footprint, there is not much else in the IG list which boasts those three attributes, I would say there are a few options (stormtroopers perhaps) but the warhound is the optimal choice in this role....

I do this w/ the warhounds in my knightworld army (they are the only 1+ initiative in a 2+ army)

You can fail an initiative test and still shoot 90cm and hit on a 2+ with a shadowsword. love 'em. :-)
