With the excellent Exodus Wars Royal Empire minis coming out soon I've taken a look at the Krieg list. Here's what I came up with, it's light on activations but I think it will work decently...

Regimental HQ, Gorgons, Commissar - 525
Infantry Company, Extra Platoon, Gorgons, 2 Thunderers, Commissar (BTS) - 790
Deathstrike Silo, Commissar - 250
Medusa Platforms (gun emplacements), Commissar - 275
Shadowsword Co, Commissar - 500
Macharius Co, Commissar - 350
Thunderbolts - 150
Thunderbolts - 150

2990 points, 8 activations

All the Gorgons would have the mortars. I was considering dropping the extra platoon from the BTS and making the Thunderer's Hellhounds (still BTS by 25 pts) and adding a Death Rider Co (3000/ 9) but the 30 stands and 6 AV's coming at the opponent is just too cool a picture in my mind!

Comments/ Opinions?

I haven't played krieg yet, but I have used formations with too many stands in the past (in a BL list, a retinue with noise marines and rhinos, so 18 stands IIRC), and it was very unwieldy - easily clipped and hard to use it's firepower effectively. You may want to go with the higher activation option even though it's not as cool.
Just my two cents.

Interesting list but I do think a few tweaks can be done. I play Krieg quite a bit (ironic I know), and I don't think the extra infantry platoon is necessary, especially with the inclusion of the thunderers. Krieg infantry formations are big enough to be extremely resilient. I don't think I have had one completely wiped out yet despite being consistently hammered by Eldar webway assaults. I don't think the Medusa platforms fit in with the army style you are going with but that is just me. I think the t-bolts handle deep interdiction just fine. Shadowsword and Macharius companies are outstanding. Here is what I bring at 3k to see my take on it.
Reg HQ with Gorgons (c)
Inf co with Gorgons(c)
Death Rider Co(c)
Macharius Platoon (c)
Macharius Platoon
Shadowsword Co(c)
Grenadier Platoon Centaurs (c)
2 Thunderbolt sqds.
Infantry provide the hammer. A/c and super-heavies provide the support. The grenadiers and death riders provide disruption and counterattack. It's aggressive and I have found I haven't missed having artillery. Haven't tried the deathstrike silo, but can imagine how much that'll anger your opponent :) Happy gaming and let us know how your force does.

Now that I actually sit and think about it, the large fm does seem a bit unwieldy. I think I'm going to go with this:

Regimental HQ, Gorgons, commissar - 525
Infantry Co, Gorgons, Hellhounds, commissar - 550 (BTS)
Death Riders, commissar - 250
Deathstrike Silo, commissar - 250
Shadowswords, commissar -500
Macharius Co, commissar - 350
Hydra Platforms - 125
Thunderbolts - 150
Thunderbolts - 150
Marauder (or another flight of TB's) - 150

The Deathstrike silo and Hydras protect the Blitz (the Hydras on OW). Everything else goes forwards! Now to get some cheese....

I like that list a lot more. If you run more AA platforms I would go with Heavy-AA ones. I was not originally a believer, but the 60cm range is a bigger deal than you might think. Since you are running a bunch of T-bolts the hydras will be just fine. Marine players will think twice before aerial assaulting your blitz when they are on overwatch. It can also deter teleporters.

BTW, normal Leman Russes work well with Gorgon assault companies. The battle cannons allow them to shoot on turn 1-2 when you are probably not in range to engage yet.

Yeah I would like to take the Thunderers but that's 15 points I can't squeeze out from anywhere unfortunately. I may try the list with the Hellhouds switched out for a Macharius, which is the same points cost.

Interesting to see the list played in lots of different ways. I particularly like Death Rider Companies and Medusas myself.

I reckon 2 AA Guns to 1 Hydra is be the best option and that Trojans are better than emplacements.

Post subject:  Re: Krieg!

I've been playing Krieg too, with increasing success. I'll post my two favourite lists to give a different view.

Medusas
I used Medusas but dropped them - disrupt is great, but the shorter range was making me deploy in an overly vulnerable manner further from my board edge, and in WA there are a lot of necron/thunderhawk/terminator armies who need solid defence to counter. They are also expensive (3 Medusa for 275 looks bad compared to the Mossinians 6 Howitzers for 300, and pretty average compared to Krieg's own Earthshakers for 200).
Your mileage may vary, but despite costing the same these are not Manticores.

Anti Air
For anti air, I very strongly recommend taking advantage of Krieg's rare opportunity to mix up the formation. Take 1 Heavy AA gun to get a blast marker out to 60cm range, with 2 Hydras to increase your killing power inside 45cm. Then don't take the emplacements, take trojans instead, both as ablative wounds and alternative supressed units vs anything on the ground inside 30cm.

Krieg Offensive Army (Massed Infantry and 8 War Engines)
Regimental HQ 20 Infantry , Mortar Gorgons - 525
20 Infantry, Mortar Gorgons - 425
Heavy Anti Air + 2 Hydras (trojans) 125
3 Earthshakers (trojans) 200
3 Earthshakers (trojans) 200
Deathstrike Silo 250
Warhound 275
Warhound 275
Warhound 275
Thunderbolts 150

And my second army list is different but at least as fun to play.

The theory is that Krieg are better at holding positions than average IG armies due to their massive formations having 5+CC 5+FF instead of 6+CC 5+FF (that CC value being important because who fire fights the guard?). Therefor despite their 'Siege' focus they should be able to operate with less boots on the ground and still be able to hold objectives, which could potentially free up enough points to give them the opportunity to become one of the game's few great airforce armies.

RAF Bomber Command
Supreme Commander (20 Infantry stands) 4 Fire Support
Commander (20 Infantry stands) Two Gorgons
Commander (20 Infantry stands) Two Gorgons

Heavy Anti Air + 2 Hydras (trojans) 125
3 Earthshakers (trojans)
3 Earthshakers (trojans)
Deathstrike Silo

War Engine Maurauder Bomber
War Engine Maurauder Bomber
War Engine Maurauder Bomber
War Engine Maurauder Bomber
War Engine Maurauder Bomber
2 Thunderbolts

The RHQ with fire support hold the Blitz and defend the artillery and AA, while the 40 other infantry in Gorgons launch counter assaults, the artillery disables/suppresses anti air units, and then the fighters and bombers carve a path of destruction against anyone who forgot to bring enough AA.
Which is virtually everyone :D

Post subject:  Re: Krieg!

i was almost thinking that you could not take that many bombers due to the 33% but after looking at the list, there is NO 33%...wow... thats allot of bombers

Post subject:  Re: Krieg!

Krieg can take formations of 1 Marauder for 150 pts. So 5 x 150 + 150 for the Thunderbolts is just 900 points.

Post subject:  Re: Krieg!

Note the Krieg Marauder is a 2DC War Engine in a formation of one with different stats - it's modelled on the W40k Marauder from Forge World rather than the tiddly old one. I prefer to use the WE Marauder stats in friendly games with any lists that use Marauders, as it's more true to how it should be.

Interesting idea with the Marauder army, I'm only one Marauder down from that many myself. How do you find it does in battle?

Oh god,

What a great list!

Now where can I get some big bombers?

Pretty big -- a bit larger scale than AI, -- but cheap, and easily modded. Image

Otherwise, hard to beat this for a Marauder proxy -- a bit smaller and definitely shorter than an E:A Thunderhawk, but not by much.

I've always wanted to use that A-10 as a Lightning Strike...
