Post subject: | Elysian/Vanaheim questions. |
I'm trying to plan a Vanaheim List, possibly to cross over as an Elysians as well. I have most of the items figured out: EW Valkyries and Transports for Valks, Vultures, and Vendettas, EW Legionnaires as Stormtroopers, and I think I may have a good idea where to get my basic troopers as well ![]() The main hang ups are air support and Sentinels. I'm trying to keep costs down, so no GW or FW if possible. I'm considering using Kazari Raiders as Sentinels in a Vanaheim list, and as Tauros in an Elysian list, but that means I'd still want Sentinels for the Elysians. Are there any good Sentinel proxies out there? As for air cover, I'd really like something less expensive than the FW models for the T-Bolts and Lightning Strikes. Are there any good proxies, or am I stuck? The DRM Kronos looks good, but I don't know what size it is? And that would only cover one of the two. Does anyone have any suggestions? |

I'll measure a Kronos for you later, but from memory they're about 4cm wide. |

Follow-ups: Aside from taking a Fire Support Platoon to split the BTS and SC, is it worth taking company upgrades in a Vanaheim list? I really only mean the Infantry, Fire Support, and Mortar Platoons, the Vendettas will be appearing. It seems taking a Mortar Platoon would be useful at times, as it would allow two BP6 barrages on top of two Vendettas, and 2BP/turn after that. Of course, that assumes I'm able to keep them outside the vehicles, essentially a Double or Advance under 30cm initial range, or Sustain. Which are preferred, 2 Lightning Strike Squadrons or a Vulture Squadron? LIghtnings have the endurance, but Vultures can put out more firepower in a single turn, and can capture/contest. I'm leaning towards Lightnings more, though I have a Vulture Squadron in my current list also. The list I'm considering consists of : Vanaheim Regimental HQ 500 3 Valkyrie 2 Vendetta 1 Supreme Commander 9 Infantry Vanaheim Infantry Company 400 3 Valkyrie 2 Vendetta 1 Commander 9 Infantry Vanaheim Infantry Company 400 3 Valkyrie 2 Vendetta 1 Commander 9 Infantry Vanaheim Infantry Company 400 3 Valkyrie 2 Vendetta 1 Commander 9 Infantry Storm Trooper Platoon 350 4 Valkyrie 8 Storm Troopers Vulture Squadron 300 4 Vultures Light Sentinel Squadron 100 4 Light Sentinels Light Sentinel Squadron 100 4 Light Sentinels Lightning Strike Fighter Squadron 150 2 Lightning Strike Fighters Lightning Strike Fighter Squadron 150 2 Lightning Strike Fighters Thunderbolt Squadron 150 2 Thunderbolts Any C&C? |

To follow up, the Kronos is 4.75cm wide (wingspan) according to the file I have on my computer. It is 4cm long, nose to tail. |

From my experience playing against the list (A sum total of twice, both of which were wins to me), I'd say generally it's not worth taking anything that must be paid for, other than to get a non-SC BTS. Always take the maximum ammount of Vendettas though, because they're free (in this list), and are better than Valkyries. Quote: It seems taking a Mortar Platoon would be useful at times I'd never take the Mortars upgrade as you lose Disrupt on your barrage attacks. So, approximately the size of the FW TBolt (5.5cm W x 5cm L). Quote: I'd never take the Mortars upgrade as you lose Disrupt on your barrage attacks. I totally missed the loss of Disrupt, can't believe it. Quote: Personally I'm a fan of Vultures. Any aircraft-heavy list is going to suffer against Tau or Eldar. I should be OK on the AA front for a little while; the local meta is virtually AC free, so it should be surprising until I play enough people to affect it. ![]() Thanks for the tips. |

A Mortar platoon will only get two BP, plus 2 OS, Disrupt BP from the Valk. But the conclusions hold, more or less. It's something to think about. |

SC/BTS: I don't think it's necessary to force these into separate formations. Yes, it's 2 targets on a formation instead of 1 target on 2 different formations, but that also means that if you are reduced to needing to hide or protect it, you are only pulling 1 formation out of the fight instead of 2. |

You'll note in my initial list that I haven't done so. What you say is true, but it also means my opponent has to either split the fire he could otherwise level at a single formation, or decide which formation is more important to destroy. On average, I split them when it is convenient, but don't make it a hard and fast rule. |

How are the Marauder Destroyers in the list? 2 bombers with 4+ saves and a sizable amount of standoff weaponry seems like a steal at 275 points. |
