Hi

The recent figures done by Otterman have got me thinking about DKOK lists. I have never been tempted by Barran Siegemasters as the list looked a bit boring to my tastes- just masses and masses of infantry with a few guns in support. The fact that DKOK can take more SHT's and also has access to Leman Russ and Macharius Heavy Tanks, not to mention the Gorgon transport. makes the DKOK of more interest to me.

I have not followed the development of DKOK list- keeping up with Armoured Company and AMTL was hard enough for me. So I have no idea how to go about putting a DKOK list, other than having downloaded v1.13b. I am not looking for a tournament winning list- just one that would be reasonably competitive against most armies if used for pick-up games. What would you suggest?

Ideally I would be looking to take units that can't take in IG SL or Armoured Company lists. Definitely would want to include some Gorgons, thudd guns/heavy mortars and basilisks/medusas.

So far the only units I have already are 10 Macharius heavy tanks, so I guess that would be 3 Macharius platoons as Support Formations and 1 Macharius as Company Upgrade. (Or 2 platoons and 4 upgrades).

In 3000 points how many Infantry Companies should I aim for if I want to max out on Macharius/Gorgons/Thudd Guns/Basilisks?

Thanks for any advice you can offer to steer me in right direction.

Thanks- looks like I will need less infantry than I feared. With my eyesight I really struggle to paint epic infantry and so I max out on tanks. I know am unlikely to win competitions that way but taking lots tanks is what I personally enjoy out of Epic.

I presme that list is 3000 points? If I dropped the Stormblades and took an extra Machaius Heavy Tank Platoon (for which I already have the models) that would save me an extra 150 points.

Likewise going for Basilisk platfroms rather than Manticores would save me a further 25 points.

With that 175 poinbts saved I could get an extra Macharius tank as upgrade (for Gorgon formation). If I can find 25 points then I could squeeze in another Thudd Gun upgrade.

Thanks for advice. It looks as if I would need 1-2 packs of each of Otterman's models and 4 packs of Siegemasters infantry.

You can easily get by with 4 companies of infantry - 3 if you want to do a tank list - in the siegemasters. It just depends on what sort of style you want (3 - tanks, 4 - grand batteries (2 arty companies), 5 - seperate squadrons, of course thats just how I might see it in my mind :) ).

How much is too much infantry for you? :)

Hi Chris

Can I use my 10 Macharius tanks in Siegemasters list? What about Gorgons? That will push me to go for DKOK rather than Siegemasters!!

As for maximum ammount of infantry I want I guess 40 stands is the limit. i.e. 2 DKOK Companies or 4 Siegemasters companies.

E&C (who wrote the DkoK) generally runs 2 infantry companies in his 3000 point list, so 40 units. The infantry are actually pretty expensive, so you don't need that many.

Having never heard of alot of these vehicles, I went to FW's site and checked them out in the normal 40k section.  Wow.  How do you proxy some of those?  Specifically, Gorgon, Centaur, etc...

Ditto! Neither the list, models nor background for the Barrans interest or inspire me, whereas the Krieg do greatly. FW do their siegers much better IMO.

I've played my first game with the Death Korps recently, vs Man of Kent's Orks, and really enjoyed it (battle report will be going up in the fullness or time). Think I'm going to like playing with the list :smile:

Not sure I could advise that much but the list I used was:

Hopefully by next game I might have Gorgons I could use, keen to try them out :) Stormswords (if possible with a Commissar in) look like a good unit I'd like to try out and a second company of Death Riders is appealing too (does your dislike of infantry extend to the horsey chaps?). It seems like a flexible list that can be run in a number of different variations though, which is nice.
