Why would anyone ever take a Bombard? The Basilisk has reach and punch. The Hydra has AA and punch. The Manticore has reach and lots o'punch. Code Sample: Basilisk  AV 20cm 5+ 6+ 5+ Earthshaker   120cm  AP4+/AT4+ or 1BP, Indirect Heavy Bolter    30cm  AP5+ Bombard  AV 20cm 6+ 6+ 5+ Siege Mortar   45cm  2BP, Ignore Cover, Indirect, Slow Heavy Bolter   30cm  AP5+ Hydra   AV 30cm 6+ 6+ 5+ 2x Hydra     45cm  AP4+/AT5+/AA5+ Heavy Bolter   30cm  AP5+ Manticore AV 20cm 6+ 6+ 5+ Rocket Launcher 150cm  2BP, Disrupt, Indirect, Slow Heavy Bolter   30cm  AP5+ Barrage  Extra  Extra Blast  AP AT Points  Templates  Markers  1    None    None   6+ 6+  2    None    None   5+ 6+  3    None    None   4+ 5+  4-5   One     None   4+ 5+  6-7   One     One    4+ 5+ If it has Walker it could be useful for close support for Catachans, or Move 15cm and thus Garrison, but that's about it. |

dropping it down to move 15 might be a good idea actually... |

Ignore cover is quite good. I've seen them used occasionally. It's normal the only artillery that doesn't get killed quickly in my experience. |

And why are they not killed immediately? Perhaps because they are not seen as a threat? And have you seen them being effective? |

Bombards are murder against Tyranid Common Broods or any other infantry that like to hang out in cover... they, essentially, get "+1" to hit against any infantry that are hugging tanks or sitting in fortifications. I think many people just disregard them without even trying them, but think about how many times you're firing on things in cover. |

I got heaps of them, but want to know if to use them or if to re-build them into really cool Basilisks... ![]() |

I rarely use them as, 1) I don't actually field Guard that often, and 2) I've only got three of them in my whole collection. *sigh* I'll ask our local Guard player to take them for a spin some time. |

Bombards?! I hate them with a vengeance!   ![]() My most frequent guard opponent invariably uses at least one battery and often two at 3-4K, instead of, or in addition to other artillery types. They are a very high target priority for me... absolute murder against infantry horde armies like orcs or tyranids. Ignore cover means you just can't hide from them and each fire mission will devastate an entire infantry formation. Certainly they don't need any boost in my opinion. They have their niche and are deadly in it. Maybe let's talk about downgrading them instead...  ![]() |

As support batteries they can be used, but compared to Basilisk shooting every turn and good direct fire AT or Hydra with double AP/AT and AA on top it's hard. But they can take a bit o'punishment and still deliver an additional template. Though choice. Perhaps my dune happy Tallarns can make better use of them? |

I use Bombards because they ignore cover. As others have said, they can be handy against infantry. |

When I play IG artillery I would take Basilisks as company choice or Manticores as battery. I rarely tkae the former because I invariaboly have Mechanised Company (well Supreme Commander), Shadowsord Company and Leman Russ company, and to maintain activation level I prefer taking near max support formations rather than a 4th company choice. So for me artillery is typically 1 or 2 Manticore batteries. Although the ignore cover of bombard would be nice. it is not enough to justify me taking them instead of the Manticores.n And if I took them as well as Manticores then I probably would have uad to drop other stuff such as sentinels. Would be happy to see if other players have had good expereinces with Bombards. Variety is good and always like freshening up way I play. Cheers James |

Assuming IDF w/ Sustained Fire, Bombards get... +33% hits against infantry in cover +0-100% kills against infantry in cover (based on saves/cover saves) +50% hits against AV in cover With Orks, I'd rather face Manticores any day. 9 Manticore shots against Boyz in woods is 3 kills. 9 Bombard shots is 5 kills, a 2/3 increase. Against Stompas/Supastompas in woods, it's a 1/2 increase. Both of those are extremely common in my games. |

Bombards are worth every point. Their ignore cover is priceless and they pack quite a punch. (imho) Soren |
