Well after getting somewhat disillusioned with the gaming aspect of 40k and waiting for 5th and then new C:SM, loving BFG but finishing up my fleet, and liking what I've read in teh Epic rules and battle reports, I've taken a crack (ok quite a few cracks with different styles) before settling on this but I'm a little torn between two varieties of IG. Currently I'm leaning more this way with perhaps picking up the second idea later. so here is what I have figured up using the default list in the E:A rule book.

Regimental HQ + hellhounds
Infantry company
Super Heavy Tank Company (3x SS)
Super Heavy Tank Company (3x SS)
Super Heavy Tank Company (3x BB)
Flak Battery (3x Hydra)
Warhound
Warhound
Sentinel Squad
Sentinel Squad
Artillery Battery (3x Bassie)

Coming in at 3500 points.
for 3k points I'd drop one sentinel, the hellhounds, and the arty

The general idea would be to use the mech regimental HQ to push out and snag objectives or hang back and direct as reinforcements to a flank using its speed supported by the warhounds and their equal speed.

The core would be the slow infantry company paired with the 3 super heavy co since hey move at the same speed and should provide support for each other, the flak battery would keep with these to provide air cover.

The sentinels would act as a buffer to the main force and the speed bonus will let them push out if needed.

The arty will either move up with the infantry co or sit back and pound away.

it should give me 11 activations at 3500 points and 9 at 3k points. I was torn between a speedy mechanized infantry and stormtrooper force with warhound support or the super heavies so I decided on this route since I think it comes out a tad cheaper to get. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated!

I would drop one of the Super Heavy companies for more artillery.

Certainly a tough force if a little undergunned I think.

Biggest problem is 4 formations costing the same making it very easy to get the 'break their spirit' goal in your 3k list. Also having the Supreme Commander and the bts the same allows the enemy to kill two birds with one stone as it were. Maybe best to drop a SHT formation instead.

Further you are a little flak light. Eldar or Marines with airdrop forces would be able to gobble you up.

More or less arty is down to style, Guard can work either way.

Thanks! Thats quite a switch from 40k and kill all things. I didn't even realize about the objectives. Ok that makes things more interesting :)

I guess I can either be more careful with my maneuvering and attempt to break LOS by swapping out damaged tank companies with undamaged ones, but how about something like this:

Regimental HQ + hellhounds
Infantry company
Super Heavy Tank Company + flak (3x SS)
Super Heavy Tank Company + flak (3x SS)
Tank Company
Flak Battery (3x Hydra)
Warhound
Warhound
Sentinel Squad
Sentinel Squad

That should come in at 3500 and it should remove the BTS objective from the supreme commander

for 3k perhaps drop the hellhounds, a sentinel squad and a warhound or the hellhounds, both sentinels, and the flak battery.

the other list I was looking at was this:
Regimental HQ + Hellhounds
Mech Infantry Co + Hellhounds
warhound
warhound
Stormtrooper Platoon +  Valkyries
Stormtrooper Platoon +  Valkyries
Vulture Squadron
Vulture Squadron
Thunderbolt
Thunderbolt
Thunderbolt
Lunar Cruiser

comes in at 3500 and for 3k drop a vulture squadron, a thunderbolt squadron and the lunar cruiser.

With a tank company costing 650 and sc plus hellhounds at... 650 you haven't!

Also mixing unit types isn't that good. The SHT's are war engines, the Hydra armoured vehicles. The enemy could say they were shooting at just armoured vehicles and strip off the Hydra. Much better to have them with the russ and chimera.

A great upgrade is the fire support, for 100 points more than doubles a companies fire-power.

I guess I miscalculated :)

In that case,

Regimental HQ + flak
Infantry company + Fire Support
Super Heavy Tank Company  (3x SS)
Super Heavy Tank Company  (3x SS)
Tank Company + flak
Flak Battery (3x Hydra)
Warhound
Warhound
Sentinel Squad
Thunderbolt

3500

now with the addition of the thunderbolts are the flak in the regimental HQ and tank Cc. needed? If not I'll drop them and put in the second sentinel squadron again to make it:

Regimental HQ
Infantry company + Fire Support
Super Heavy Tank Company  (3x SS)
Super Heavy Tank Company  (3x SS)
Tank Company
Flak Battery (3x Hydra)
Warhound
Warhound
Sentinel Squad
Sentinel Squad
Thunderbolt

3500

Debating the possibility of removing the warhounds and instead putting back that 3rd SH co. of baneblades.

Thunderbolts are not to everyone's taste. I love them, most hate them :) Depends what you are after really.

I kind of like the thunderbolts since it seems they can attack almost anything and barring flak atacks can't really be shot at. I think I'm going to go with this:

Regimental HQ
Infantry company + Fire Support
Super Heavy Tank Company  (3x SS)
Super Heavy Tank Company  (3x SS)
Tank Company
Flak Battery (3x Hydra)
Warhound
Warhound
Sentinel Squad
Sentinel Squad
Thunderbolt

3500

do you have any suggestions for this alternate list too, I realize that it has the same BTS issue, but it's a chance I'm willing to take to keep the HH and mobility since I don't think anything in that list moves under 30cm. The idea here being good mobility and the capability to drop off troops to exploit enemy weaknesses.

Regimental HQ + Hellhounds
Mech Infantry Co + Hellhounds
warhound
warhound
Stormtrooper Platoon +  Valkyries
Stormtrooper Platoon +  Valkyries
Vulture Squadron
Vulture Squadron
Thunderbolt
Thunderbolt
Thunderbolt
Lunar Cruiser
