As much as i'm for a Leviathan, it seems that the points should be the same as for 7 Chimera's. I believe the PDF list is much the same with this.. and while you have the long range and 4+ reinforced armor(where did the void shields go?) in a close up knife fight you have more attacks with the Chimera's. But the fluff would suggest using the Leviathan, especially with its reach out and touch ya gun.

I do like Jagged tooth's comment. If the SC was a choice all its own with no troops, but an option to buy karskin and other upgrades, would that be a better choice. I can see the commander directing battle of his infantry and other forces from the balcony of the Leviathan.
Btw, have ya'll ever felt that the Leviathan and thusly Capitol Imperalis are scaled down by at least a half in order to make room on the battlefield for other things. i swear that it would be huge, and the CA.... Immense.. I swear i gotta get JImbo to make me a better one on Rhino...

E&C - I believe the appropriate statement is "I told ya so." :P 150 was my thought as well.

Dughan - Leviathans have 4 Voids, as detailed in the unit sheet. Further thoughts on the Leviathan later.

If it had have had a 120cm range and +1 to rally it would probably have been much too good ;-)

Has any thought been put into adding the Crassus Armored Assault Transport to this list? In light of IA 11 coming out in the near future, I was curious.

Interesting list btw.

Cheers,

The crassus seems to mostly be used in environments inimical to human life, I think? Like a Gorgon that's suitable for use in areas with a poisoned atmosphere. Ie it seems a rather specialised piece of kit.

also, its stupid looking and can go die in a fire! :P
(seriously though, the crassus is a prime example of things on 40k scale not always needing to be represented differently in Epic scale. It's also an excellent example of the fact that epic does not need to jump onto everything 40k does. those who want to use the crassus can surely just use it as a Counts As gorgon (or a counts as corvus ordinatii if need be) it really doesnt need special rules. especially if all the cool ork vehicles dont.)

<wades through the barf> So that would be a "no" then?

Seriously guys, it's a yes or no answer to what was intended to be a simple question.

if one has a position, one should be expected to be able to explain and defend that position.

but for those who find a paragraph to be TL;DR then my vote is NO on proposition Crassus

When I think about creating a unit, I always ask myself three questions.

1) Is there an extant model?

If no: 2) Can a model be easily converted from commonly available sources?

If no: 3) Is it sufficiently important to the list to overcome not having a model?

I'd say the Crassus fails all three of those, honestly.

And I'm fine with whatever the decision is. I was just curious. I made the same argument in the Imperial Fists thread regarding the Achilles LR.

My comments have nothing to do with the length of the comment, more about the tone. Note the difference between your earlier comment and SK.

I'll butt out now.

Cheers,

Actually, since your question was "has it been considered?" the answer was Yes, it has been considered. Two reasonable posts were given in reply which you called "barf", how charming.

I thought JTG's post was pretty reasonable, funny even.

I think we need a Crassus, just so someone can model a chainsaw wielding Commissar leaning out of the top of it.

Sorry SG, thread diversion over :)

No problem.

I'm also against adding the Crassus, for the record, because it is so close to a Gorgon in function, but worse. It looks boring; it would play boring. It also fits poorly with the unit counts of each and every option for the Cadians.

It seems that a 2DC, 20cm Move, RA4+, CC6+, FF5+ War Engine with 4 Heavy Bolters and a six stand transport capacity would about do it. As a house rule for the Steel Legion list, replacing 3 Chimaeras of an RHQ/ Mech Company with a Crassus for +25pt would seem okay, but of course you'd need a model.

As an aside, the Twin Heavy Flamers on the Stormlord will be switched to Twin Heavy Bolters on the next version of the list. This is in order to make finding a proxy a bit easier.

Don't worry about the Stormlord. I have the feeling there will be a good proxy in the not so distand future ;)

That was the implication. I've been informed that finding a proxy won't take as long if this switch is made. Since Bolters and Flamers are "equal" options in 40k, as opposed to one being an upgrade, I feel this is a fair trade-off.
