THe Basilisk Datafax in E:A states that the Earthshaker is AP4/AT4 or 1BP INdirect, but may only use the Indirect fir ability when firing barrages. By the letter of the rules, this would seem to indicate that in DF mode, I can choose either the single shot, or the 1BP. Is this correct?

Yes you can, if you like, fire Barrages in Direct Mode.
Or you can use the AP4+/AT4+ attack.

In direct fire, not all the Basilisks must fire barrage, right ?
I can shoot 2 normally, and 1 barrage ?

BY th elette rof the rule you can shoose shot for shot if you want to shoot AP/AT or BP. But Indirect Fire only if you shoot BP.

Basilisks, Manticores, Whirlwinds, any artillery units actually should be used in the Indirect Fire role ... That's the way artillery normally works.  Only very rarely is it used in the direct fire role ...

Well, yeah. I'm not sure I'd ever use the option, but it's nice to know it exists...

Agreed, though. If my opponent can see my Arty, it's already dead.

Yes ... thats why I put my Arty behind cover on the edge of the board ... and fire them indirect all game.  My opponent needs to use Aircraft to get to them, so place some Anti-Aircraft Guns near them.  He can try to teleport, Assault Troops w/Jumps Packs, Speeders, Bikes etc, or any other fast unit to get to them ... But save for teleporting he has to get passed my frontline troops & Reserve unit(s) to get there ...
