In essence are these things worth 100 points for 4 - or more or less?

I've used them as part of AMTL testing. There they were actually a worse choice as their role was teleport interdiction and an AP weapon would have been a lot better!

Saying that the number of enemy stands my sentinels have killed over the years can be counted on one hand, in which case the ability to lay the bm at 45 as opposed to 30cm is surely better?

I guess also a mech heavy and tank light formation could turn to them to harrass Ork gunwagonz and similar - a good use? But what cost?

So who has used them an how did they fare?

I use them to cover flanks and if need be harass enemy flanks, isolated units, etc.  Almost like the Cav.  But don't try to use them in a toe-to-toe engagement with anything bigger then a Rhino ... unless you have no choice ...

Flanking seems to be the most common use though accompanying this is the ability to gain crossfires, even if it's the other party doing the shooting!
