What do you mean by WW2 style anti air warfare?  I think most people think the German 88 around strategic targets when they think of Flak guns - and that exist as the Blitzen in the Siegemaster list.  The other form of Defensive Air in WW2 was other Aircraft, accurate far reaching AA weapons where not prevelant.

I think having weapons on Aircraft that are not as capable as the Infantry carried equivalent is retarding the Air Assets.  If making the rules consistent means that we as a community have to re-evaluate the AA weapons to make them more consistent with what they should be, so be it. The style of Warfare can be retained if the AA providers are looked at to see if they match the background.  Currently the Hydra does not.

We are also discussing a list that is more akin to the 1st Cavalary Division during Vietnam, where generally the Airborne Divisions allies (the USAF) had air superiority.

We may need to go through and compare the various list.  Currently Tau & Siegemasters seem to have the most capable ground based AA weapons.

How about assigning a company of tanks to the Elysians? This was done during Iraqi Freedom when a battalion of Abrams were assigned to the 101st Air Assault Division for mobile fire support during ground operations. Other than Apaches, the only other support were either towed or lifted by helicopters, mounted on Humvees, or fixed winged support such as Thunderbolt II close support aircraft. This also took the pressure off the Apaches as the only mobile fire support.

During the opening attack during the Iraqi Freedom, Apache helicopters of the Aviation Brigade were used to support the 3rd Infantry Division since it was felt they can fly low enough to support the ground troops. Since the Iraqi air defense was pretty much destroyed, this should not be a problem. However, this attack was largely a failure, a large number of the Apaches came back with damages, some very heavy; seven helicopters were shot down. The Iraqis used a very coordinated attack using small arms fire, RGPs, and spotters. In took Thunderbolt II close support aircraft to suppress the Iraqis.

Well there is always the lander for the steel legion that was dropped for model reasons during testing. Such a beast could transport light armour on a chimera hull.

Sorry, Elysians don't use tanks. They have nothing heavier than a Sentinel on their ORBAT.

Stuff like big orbital landers are the difference between lots of small 40k models and epic (at least as far as I can tell from l4's accronynims :) ).

I tried pushing for the Arvus Lighter for the Elysians but got shot down (no pun intended). :;):

I'll have to defer to everyone else on this since I have never read any Elysian fiction.

Yes, when I was in the 101, we sometimes got tanks attached to us ... but they were not in the TO&Es. The best AT weapon in the 101 was the Cobra and now Apache which is part of the Div's assets and the Elys should rely on the Vults in a similiar way, IMO. Plus as I said before, CAS is a must. And most Divs in the US Army have  Attack Helo units in there TO&E, but in an Infantry unit without armor, they are literally " a life saver". ? ? ? ? And I recommend a Mortar unit per each Bn, if it's not in there already. The Sentinels should be good light fire support, like weapons mounted on Jeeps (like we had) or now, Hummers. I like that. I feel the Elys like most Epic units are just a higher tech version of WWII. Grav-chutes = parachutes, Valks = Gliders (?) but much, much better ... ?However since it's Sci-fi, Valks & Vults are more like Hueys & Cobras just more high tech. ?:D
