nice idea for a list, why don't you put the Thunderhawk Transporter in too?

'Cause I don't need to :)

Idea is minimal changes and equipped for operation from ground bases - so the 'hawks and landers fly from there. The transporter isn't a combat craft, we have the lander which can deal with a whole formation at once. They would have helped set up base, but now would probably be with the strike cruiser.

The promethus is there for forward command and control as few orbital facilities, com sats and stuff would in this scenario be relied on.

Through a strict reading of the rules, you could end up with Sniper Heavy Bolter Razorbacks, hehe.

Personally my 'dream' Marine list would be one that's fully balanced both for aerospace play and for ground-pounding, and which also includes the half-dozen or so extra models that GW/SG produces which currently have no rules in Epic*, plus the common conversions***.

In general all that's required to make this happen is to drop the price of the basic formations a little here and there, and up the costs of airdropping slightly to compensate.

Thus airdropped armies would stay the same cost (As that's pretty much balanced), while ground-pounder armies would get slightly cheaper (As they're an inferior choice right now).

*=

- The Land Raider Helios (It's just a LR with a Whirlwind launcher on top, doesn't qualify as a conversion IMHO).
- The Thunderhawk Transporter (Soon)
- The Multi-Melta Dreadnought
- The Apothecary
- The Techmarine

***=
- The Land Raider Crusader
- The Land Raider Promethius
- The Damoclese Rhino

I'd also change the Thunderhawk Gunship to DC3, in order to match the newer background / models / rules that've been released since Epic 4th edition came out.

Yep, that'll happen. :D

come off it, if you change the thunderhawk you would have to change all the the other transports of simler types.

Shrug.

I'm a big one for commonality throughout the systems.

The main GW background has had the Thunderhawk as a somewhat larger vehicle than it used to be for several years now (Ever since FW released their DC3 40k-sized Thunderhawk).

It ain't that important to me, but it's one of those little niggles.

Like Sentinels in the IG list being armed with one weapon on the model, but given a different weapon in the rules... it's just slightly off and wouldn't take much to fix, but it's there nonetheless.

If you follow the link to the old epic sg forum you will see the discussions there around list creation and the idea of having a 'universal' list. It makes balance very hard, I think the current revisions take it as far as it can go.

Air assault is such a multiplier it affects everything else too much. Assault marines are worthless on the ground almost but worthwhile from the air for instance.

Ah but a strict reading of the rules would reveal they are Twin Heavy Bolters :)

- The Apothecary
- The Techmarine
- The Damoclese Rhino

Ah but they already are :)
Apothacary - can be represented by a chaplain as his selfless example moves the brothers to greater feats.
Techmarine - is nothing but a Librarian added to a vehicle :)
Damoclease - Is simply a captain added to a transport!

I'd also change the Thunderhawk Gunship to DC3, in order to match the newer background / models / rules that've been released since Epic 4th edition came out.
Yep, that'll happen. :D

Thunderhawks are now as tough as Baneblades? My word. What would the lander become? I wouldn't like to see this change much, it would make them riducously survivable.

I'm a big one for translating intent not letter.

Like Sentinels in the IG list being armed with one weapon on the model, but given a different weapon in the rules...

I use 3rd ed sentinels :) But yes its annoying that sort of model inaccuacy - and you missed mech infantry using autocannon when they should have missile lauchers!

I should say I would like for the promethus to have supreme commander - but how to work it into army list?

Apothecary is there: Its the InvulnerableSave each Character has :)
Techmarines are there: Add a Librarian to a Devastator unit and you have a Techmarine with Servotir bodybuard. :)
Damocles is there: Just put your SupremeCommander in a Rhino :)

Aye it certainly would make them very tough!

The way I look at it is, if Epic were redesigned from the ground up today (As a 5th edition), T-Hawks would be DC-3... but it ain't gonna happen this edition, so who cares... :)

The lander'd stay unchanged at DC-4 I guess, since noone at GW has taken it into their head to redesign it yet.

The Thunderhawk Transporter is DC-3 though. :D

Check out the armoured variant list :;):.

Oh I know how to put it into the unit stats - but how to add that unit? I don't want it to be an additional unit.

I'd look to the fluff.

Is the Damocles normally deployed alone, or with a formation?

If with a formation, what type?

I could physically add it to every formation in various ways - it is just somewhat ineligant.
