It looks cool, but it's too big. It makes titans look silly. |

(Bombot @ Sep. 26 2006,15:21) QUOTE It looks cool, but it's too big. It makes titans look silly. It's correctly in scale with the Epic range... It's supposed to carry two Rhinos underneath the hull after all! The SG Thunderhawks are so small they're a joke... how they're supposed to fit 40 Marines (Or Dreadnoughts!) inside them I've no idea. It's still smaller than a Marine Lander. You can just about see the two Resin Rhinos under one in this shot: http://www.ageofstrife.com/albums/Spack93/IMG_1907.jpg |

It's supposed to carry two Rhinos underneath the hull after all! Yes and no. It might be an exact "scale down" of the 40K version but Epic models don't follow an exact scaling (and never have). Larger models are scaled down at a higher ratio. In particular, aircraft and titans are out of proportion, noticably smaller, than what they would be on a straight conversion. |

I realise that, but because you look down on the games table, it kind of works to have the aircraft in a smaller scale. It might be ok to have aircraft in the right scale but then there's no getting around the fact that the titans are completely out of scale with everything else. I'd rather stick to a 'consistently' distorted scale. |

Or we could just get FW to make us some really big-ass Titans! ![]() Seriously, though those Thunderhawks do look huge. Probably won't stop me buying some though... Regards, Reaver |

I prefer having the aircraft in-scale with the tanks and infantry. There used to be a gradual scale upwards, but over the years everything is being brought to 6mm scale, first the tanks (Initially with SG scaling some of them up, then FW completing the range of true 6mm tanks), now the aircraft (FW only). Only the titans remain at 1:500 scale instead of at 1:300 like the rest of Epic... and probably will do since having fullscale Titans would be (although awesome) highly expensive! A Warlord at 6mm scale would stand the same height as a 40k scale Warhound! (11 inches tall!) So yeah, Titans, probably not, but there's no reason why the rest of the range shouldn't be consistant (And better looking). Edit: I expect the sliding scale was only instituted due to early-gw production limits anyway. |

It?s just that because aircraft are usually seen in the distance from below, we associate them with being smaller than they are. On the table top, they are actually bigger to the eye than the ground units (being on flying stands). Correct scale aircraft thus look kind of weird, even without the titan scale issue (which is the main one, imo). If you?re doing a diorama, then you?re going to want the right scale aircraft. But for games I think the messed up scale makes sense. |

I don't get that feeling at all really (vis a vis perspective) ... SG aircraft just look dinky to me. |

I do agree, but I guess I'd rather have the dinky aircraft than dinky titans. Well, the titans are dinky anyway, but no need for a thunderhawk to come along and really embarass them! |
