I know that before the specialist boards were gutted there was some talk of beefing up the Land Raider. Does anyone have any ideas on how we can get the SMurfs favourite tank up to par?

I think it would be fine if it was only about 350 points for the unit. IMO, Space Marine tanks pay waaaaaaaaaaaaay too many points for TSKNF. 25 Points a pop is a bit steep considering what it does for you.

The option of adding hunters would be nice, even though most here know that I think they suck too. :o0

I think the primary option being looked at is to drop the points of SM armor by a bit.

Changing the stats is probably out at this point because it would affect not just SMs, but Chaos.  Points, otoh, are easy to tweak.

Yeah a points drop might make them more feasible. We have stopped using them - even in 10k games! Shame that the iconic SM vehicle alongside the rhino just isn't used.  I remember epic40k prior to rules amendements - they were so good that people fielded entire armies of them :D

My thought was that they should've been a 2DC War Engine! ?They've got a Machine Spirit, AV14 all around in 40k, and are bristling with weapons! ?They should be the toughest "tank" in the game.

But that idea was shot down... *sigh*

I think that a points drop would also benefit them. As others have said you just don't see them and this feels wrong.

yep. I agree on this too. Always thought they were too pricey and have consequently never fielded them in a game.

I'd like the points dropped by 25, and two options added. Option 1 - Hunter. Option 2 - Land Raiders (like the existing upgrade at the same cost).

Then again maybe the upgrade cost should go down - are transported terminators really worth 725 points?

The above 8 strong LR formation would cost (assuming 75 points per extra LR) 675 - how does that compare to 10 Leman Russ?

75 points per LR is too low.  That point cost is balanced in the CSM list imho, and they don't have TSKNF.

I think that if the formation is dropped in points, the upgrade should be dropped by a similar amount.

I'm not big on the idea of a massed LR company in general.

Except for a few specific examples (Black Legion, Space Wolves, and possibly Dark Angels 'Ironwing'), I agree that there shouldn't be mass companies of Land Raiders.

BTW, every SM vehicle can get a Machine Spirit upgrade now.  It's particularly effective on Vindicators.

I some cases L/Rdrs may be used in Co. Level formations ... but I really don't have a problem with it either way.

Actually its struck me why no company LR actions - the marines in epic don't act as companies ever.

The 75 points would be upgrade wise. Is this two low? Devs are I think 250 points now, they would be 400 for 4 devs and two land raiders. Terminators would be 625 for the formation.

Are these costs too low? Sure the LR formation itself shouldn't go down by a hundred points, but the upgrades? (Plus each LR upgrade costing 92-93 points is just really fiddly.)
