Apoc has decided that due to Real Life (TM) being hectic at present, he is no longer able to Champion the Iron Hands, after some discussion, I have decided to pass it to Argol to drive forward, he has a good vision for the direction of the list, and is actively getting games in to test stuff out

so please give him your warmest welcome and let the testing commence!

Congratulations!

I have a large collection of largely useless Dreadnoughts looking for a home, so I'm looking forward to seeing the mission statement for this list!

Best regards,
Stephan

Thanks Kyussinchains,

The development and discussions around the Iron Hands has been standing still for a while, so lets see if we can get things going again. The mission statement, copied from Apocolocyntosis Iron Hands 1.1 thread:

  • Increased use of dreadnaughts
  • Dreadnaughts in leadership/character roles
  • Greatly reduced terminators, now employed as squad leaders
  • Mechanised Infantry
  • Strong ties to ad-mech, but dogmatic and isolated from other allies

I have some ideas on changes I would like to do based on the 1.1 list, but I don't see any reason to change the mission statement. I would also like to get some feedback and ideas before I publish a 1.2 list, especially around the following areas:

  • How to further highlight the ad-mech connection? Current list has more Titan options and Graviton Guns on the Devastators. But at the same time the list has a special rule that gives formations a BM when a Titan dies, discouraging the use of Titans…
  • How to avoid building another air-assault list, this time using Dreadnoughts?

Raise the cost of the Thunderhawk perhaps? 200 points is really cheap for what it does. I've put it at 250 in the Alpha Legion, and I think it's still worth taking there, but no longer an auto-include.

A more extreme version would be to remove it entirely, perhaps replacing it with the CAS and/or the bomber version.

Take away the God Machine rule. It's crap and should not be around in sny list.

Maybe have a 0-1 Skitarii hypatist support slot which unlocks a Majoris Thingie in the support section?

Or remove the Warhounds and replace them with Ordinatus Minoris. The Reaver and/or the Warlord could be replaced with Ordinatus Majoris.

Have a ground transport option that can move dreadnoughts. Perhaps borrow a Mechanicus Minorus?

In the draft version of the list I've seen they actually already have that: "Land Raider Anvilarum".

Good luck with it, Argol.

For the first, drop the points on the Titans, make the Warhounds pair only and that the rule only happens when the entire formation goes down, and they will be taken more.

For the second, as Mrdealot says, use the CAS Thunderhawk or the Transporter one, as with the battle cannon out of the equation, a pure Thunderbrick list is a lot less effective. A ground transport that can take Dreadnoughts, like a Ordinatus, sounds nice too.

I look forward to seeing you developing it Argol. Glad the core mission statement is staying the same, and agreed about finding ways to move it away from dreadnought air assault:

Dropping or pruning some of the special rules would be good.
