Can I just double check - am I right that vindicators don't have Ignore Cover on their fire fight? (Doesn't this seem wrong? )

They don't have ignore cover on their FF value..... I believe it was on the table as a potential way to make them a little more attractive but tbh they don't need it, even if it seems weird....

Yeah, that's what I thought. Any great tactics for using them successfully ? They just seem a bit outclassed by the other options. Anyway, Thanks for the reply.

If you look at the official lists, you have to get to the warlock titan (swordwind) before you find a unit with ignore cover in FF. The hellhound, skorcha and sappers all only have it on their shooting attacks. I have a feeling it didn't occur to anyone until later...

Yeah agreed, its wasn't something that was considered in the first phase lists.

Does it make sense and give the vindicator a distinct role in SM lists - sure does.

Does it need it, many think so, but others disagree. Our group trialed it with IC on FF a bit last year, didn't seem to break the game and was something of a compromise from the MW many were interested in. My preference is yes but its up to the ACs.

From a unit design guideline if the sole weapon it is equipped with has IC, the FF value probably should as well. There's not a huge pressing need to push on these (like less than tertiary priority) but vindis are not as common as one would hope. However being fielded in formations of 6 has more ummmp than playing around with stats gives so I've been more content to use the IF batreps as a proving ground for updating the Codex list for a more targeted trial/inclusion.

Orton, long time no see, mate!

My question came about as I was looking at lists for the Exeter tournament where the boards include fortifications in deployment zones - exactly where the vindicator should come into its own. (Admittedly I'm looking at epic UK list but I believe there's not a huge difference on this.)

Compared to a unit of predator destructors it's a no brainer - cheaper, faster, longer range, similar odds on hits (even if target is in cover) chance of massively more hits (especially on sustain) and ironically can be upgraded to a 6 strong unit with extra vindicators! :-)

Plus I have 6 models I want to use ! :-) Good job I'm getting some extra units together to try out some imperial fists soon ! :-) Kyuss - get an EUK version out quick ! ;-)

I'd be shocked if Kyuss' list would bit be accepted in a tourney.

Why?
I'd have no problem adopting it, or something similar, for EpicUK. For NetEA when it's approved I can't see why netEA tournaments wouldn't accept it

Can you find me some HEAT ammo for my vindis at the same time Steve ? ;-)

Just to inform you: The Linebraker Formation appears in the latest Codex Space Marines. 3 Vindicators can combine their shots for a biiig template. Look like BPs to me :) Just a thought.
