I've always loved the story behind the Badab War conflict and grabbed the Imperial Armour 9 & 10 books as soon as they came out. Recently FW re did their rules for 6th ed 40k and it again grabbed my interest.
To do something with this interest I've decided to try and do a Badab war supplement by the end of 2014. The intent would be to use some of the current WIP lists to represent those chapters in the Badab War that closely follow a first founding chapter whilst for the others they could use the standard marine list as well as some chapter specific unique units etc. Given it would be for scenario play I would also like to use it to capture some of the new and old SM units that perhaps don't make the NetEA Space Marine list but are there for those people who'd like to include them. The though behind this is its like the Heresy lists, they will be mostly fighting a similar force, so extra variety will help get some diversity in the lists. EG include, veterans in PA, scout bikes, FW vehicle variants etc.
Thankfully most of the work required to do this has already been done but its scattered around the place. What I would like to do is spend between now and mid Dec (work will get in my way a bit during Nov) to plan the supplement, hunt down the current versions of lists, and scope any additional work such as playtesting. It would also be great to guage the interest level for such a supplement.
Basic scope so far: Basic overview of the conflict, without conducting a complete cut & paste from FW's work. Army lists or army list modifications for each chapter, thoughts so far: Astral Claws - standard SM with ability to take greater formation sizes, focus on bikes & big guns Lamenters - blood angels Mantis Warriors - standard? perhaps limitations on AV with discount on aircraft? scout on some marine formations? Executioners - standard - limitation on bikes and devastators, sternguard as a formation? Red scorpions, novamarines, howling griffons - probably all standard. Fire hawks - greater assault squads, Rapturous Rex as Spacecraft? Raptors - variant list or standard with option for scout/sniper on tacticals? Salamanders - have list already Fire angels - limitations on terminators, dreads, landraiders - discount on rhino hulls or razorback variants? Exorcists - more scouts? Librarian units? Inquisition allies? Marines Errant - option to take teleport on infantry other than terminators. Sons of Medusa - Iron hands? Star Phantoms - increased devastator formations size, assault formation limitations? Carcharodons - assault terminators, "assault tacticals" Minotaurs - siege assault as standard? or limited scouts, larger terminator/land raider options Siege assault list - WIP Tyrants Legion - WIP Inquisition lists? Expanded naval support AMTL Skitarri/Titans list or support options.
Some scenarios based on key battles - perhaps taking into account alternate conditions such as space, deathworlds and so on.
Basically the attempt would be, like the compendium, to gather up a bunch of existing imperial rules, give them a slight polish then put them into a PDF that had some fluff, cool artwork & pics and extra scenarios.
