So as not to derail Neals Raven Guard any further I thought I'd start a seperate thread.

Before going into the tempest which is apparently a 'marine fighter' I have to ask why the marines don't simply get an atmospheric fighter? Ok no space born one so not to break the fight the imperium restriction. But a one man pure interceptor wouldn't be breaking the fluff surely? As it is any alien race with aircraft and bunkers would defeat any marine force turning up on the planet.

Anyway one Tempest


Armed with a twin missile launcher (on 'AA mount') and assault cannon.

As Niel points out the weapons are nigh identical to the typhoon. The armour makes up for the lack of 2nd crewman and then the only difference is the AA mount.

If I were stating it to be a very odd mobile AA piece I'd make it into its own formation, probably 4 strong, speed 35cm, Save 4+, LV, CC6+, FF5+, assault cannon and twin AA missile launcher 30cm AP4+/AT5+/AA6+ (alternatively to make it harder to use but harder hitting 30cm AP4+/AT5+/AA5+ forward arc). Cost is tricky but I guess in the 200-250 range. (And yes, no scout for all the resons below!)

I vote for keeping it a light vehicle, it's only negligibly more armoured.

Why the idea to combine the weapons into one stat rather than having them seperate weapons TRC?

It's the same armour as a Rhino. Ok side armour is still lower.

That was pure lazyness on my part in not writing out the stats for the assault cannon separately, I just assumed everyone would know it was 2 weapons :)

Nah sorry you'd confused me.

Those stats sound good. It probably should be a separate squadron, or at most a 0-2 upgraded ones in squads across the army to stop every single speeder squadron getting AA which would be too nasty for enemy airforces. Seperate squadron is my preference though. Next question - squad numbers; 5 as typical for Land Speeders or something smaller?

We know - we're discussing it being a light vehicle. It is a light vehicle that comes equipped with an AA mounted missile launcher in W40k, which is being translated to the same here.

You're probably right about both those points Rug, loosing Scout does make it a more palatable proposition and it really should be fixed forward considering the model.

I would not have a Fixed Forward weapon on a Light Vehicle... I can't actually think of any fixed forwards weapons on *any* AV or LV class vehicle, even in places where it'd be appropriate like Space Marine Vindicators.

It's a pretty firm rule that weapon arcs shouldn't be assigned to vehicles other than War Engines and Aircraft, and despite its status as an AA vehicle the Tempest is neither.

I would also suggest removing Scout (so it doesn't create a 'wall' of light AA) and giving it AA5+
