There wouldn't be much difference or "Variant" if we kept Allies and just added some more Termies. This list is desgin to show the specialization and combat doctrine of the Dark Angels while Hunting for the Fallen. Therefore NO Allies! :D

I can understand that.

But, chasing the Fallen isn't the only thing DA does.

The Fallen truly are the curse of the DA; in-and-out of game.

That is true on both accounts but any other play style the DA use can be shown with a Codex list or another Variant list depending on the fighting style you want to play with your marines.

Very true.

What would you think about if the skimmers in the Ravenwing formation were upgrades, so that the bikes/attack bikes could be placed in a Thunderhawk/landing craft for rapid insertion?

Also, how about a Ravenwing upgrade to other units, like tacticals, similar to the Deathwing/Ironwing upgrades?

Ravenwing tend to operate independantly, ranging ahead in recon and interdiction roles, as well as searching for the Fallen, their primary and overriding duty. It is this duty that they were created for, in fact.

Skimmers are part of the basic Ravenwing structure. The Ravenwing Attack formation is actually two Ravenwing Attack Squads of ten marines, each consisting of six Ravenwing Bikers, a Ravenwing Attack Bike, and a Land Speeder, often a Tornado.

So, how would one play this list to it's strengths? What would be some DA specific tactics of this list?

Couple spring to mind...

Double Wing: 1-3 RW Type formations zip around to critical locations and then have DW formations Teleport in to smash the enemy.
Deathwing: Focus on mainly many large formations Teleporting or driving across in LR/LRC.
Plasma: Devs, Tacs and Dreads fixed with Plasma crazyness.
Ironwing: Large Armour pushes.
Mixed: Any or all of the above together.

That would make for low # of activations.

In a 2,000 pts list I had trouble getting 2 upgraded units of 6 termis and only 1 RW.

How do you think the list compares to other chapter lists?

What about giving assault terminators an assault cannon and FF 5+ (like a LS Tornado), since they do mix squads?

Improved cc (2+) but reduced ff (5+), but still be ap/at 5+ for the a/c. Assault termites would be useless vs. skimmers otherwise, and it is still very fluffy.

I tried that route before....it doesn't work. The way the Termies are the best were getting, maybe adding a CML stand? But unlikely. I still think there should be a LC Stand and a TH stand not just "Assault" stand, meh.

In the "Dark Angels Space Marine Army Reference 1" the DW Librarian is listed w/o an invulnerable save. Is this intentional?

Yes? DA Characters just have Fearless instead of Invulnerable Saves. It was a choice made before I step in by TRC IIRC so we wouldn't have to adjust cost on them compared to the Codex Counterparts. Possible to adjust down the line or add back into, I think BL was alright with both?
