As Zombocom says more succinctly above, Matt's tournys could only be catagory 1 if there were no changes or faq's on his part at all... as his tournament pack has/had 2/3 pages of rules changes and clarifications, then he's firmly into category 2.


Ok that's a little pedantic but in that case let's add category 0: No additional FAQ or clarifications whatsoever, redefine 1 to include additional rulings for the purposes of clarification and smooth running only


Matt is defininitely in 1 and not 2! Nobody is in category 0!

Anyone who wanted to to use genral rules changes, army list changes or even new armies, that are not GW official, ?would for sure be in category 2

I dunno. Things like the fearless 5cm rule was definately a pretty major change at the time, designed to change the game rules, not clear up an unclear rule (like the droppod one).

I'm not sure you can define that as a change for clarification (the rules were already clear), or for smooth running (while annoying, the old rules did work perfectly well).

This is all pretty pointless and pedantic anyway.

I do agree, of all his judgements that, in the strictest sense, is a ?real rules change.

But the fearless cheat really was a game spoiler like no other and had to go!

But of course, the fearless charge was really annoying.

But it just goes to show that even a relatively conservative tournament organiser isn't adverse to the idea of implementing non-official rules changes.

As I said, he has to. Not only that but it is incumbant on him to do so. That's why there's no one in category 0.

But let either fuzzy logic (or common sense) apply when classifying.

The UK torunament scene is, in the main, in category 1.
By contrast the French scene neck deep in category 2 or possibly in 3.

We can therefore say with confidence that the UK scene is going to adopt few, if any, non GW changes unless it radically changes its attitude.

Similarly we can predict that the french are highly likely to adopt a great many future non GW changes.

And that's my point.

No he didn't have to... he made the change because he wanted Epic to be a better game.

I wasn't talking about a particular change there - rather changes in general. I was saying that  every tournament organiser has to accept the possiblity that he may may have to make some rulings. I think that's just a fact of life - made almost inevitable by the complexity of the rules.

A tournament organiser's first priority is a smoot-tournament. Making the game better is secondary - that is the primary goal of game designers. (Of course I'm not saying here that the same person can't wear both hats)

I never said or suggested anyone was a bad person for trying to improve the game. I am only describing the realities of the UK tournament scene and their bearing to the Net EA project.

That is possible but I'm not sure it's likely to happen. You have three choices.

1) Play GW Epic A - all rules from the SG site - no unnoficial tweeks

2) Play GW Epic A - most rules from the SG site with a few non official tweaks from here

3) Play Net Epic A - all source material comes from this site not SG, ignore the SG stuff (even though there's not a huge difference)

I may be wrong but if if this site does (and is allowed to) host a complete version of the game, I actually think option 3 is more likely to happen than 2 in the UK; less confusion

It may be less likely in the UK, but I think it's pretty likely elsewhere.

Not that it will hurt my feelings if it doesn't happen.  I'm just thinking of ways to do things that will be useful to others outside out little "inbred" EpicComms community.

I'd agree with that.
Certainly in the States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand option 2 does seems nigh on certain.

If it can be managed, then 2, better yet 3, are ultimately the way to go.
