Dark Angel Predator!

Sorry, not very good at names.

I do have its basic background though. Somewhat random as I'm supposed to be writing a proposal for a tv news station in India and the dog keeps attacking my foot.

Perhaps the rarest Predator configuration currently in production (not in use, there is probably a chapter somewhere with a Predator IFV), the *insert name here* is manufactured only by the Dark Angels on the *insert patern/mk here* hull (yes use old model) in barely functioning assembly lines deep within the Rock. Used in small numbers by the chapter and even smaller numbers amongst its successors the *insert name here* has a mixed combat record. Though providing excellent fire-power on a light fast chassis there have been occasions where the spirits of the ancient plasma technologies have refused to smite the Emperors foes (every other turn actually) and in one infamous incident almost caused the escape of a fallen.

Well for the name i sugest something whioch follows the "Predator Ability" theme.
Predator Destructor
Predator Annihilator
Predator Incinerator

And for the Dark Angels:
Predator Plasmator
Predator Inductor (as electromagnetic induction is used to create a plasma)
Predator Solaris
Predator Coronator

On a side note an Dreadnought with Plasma Cannon i would name "Sunfury Dreadnought"  :p

Moving away from a lists specifics do people think the above concept for Dark Angels is the right one? I think it gives a different tactical play style across enough core elements to be a different list from the standard codex affair.
In summery its
Elite units - Deathwing/Characters/Ravenwing
Few (preferably no) allies when conducting the classic DA mission
Special Rule
Then the 'next tier' of changes
Evidence of plasma weaponry (Tacticals/Dev, variant units)
Several unit swaps (I favour dreds, pred)
A bit of old fluff (getting an ironwing upgrade in, changing a few weapon names)

Overall you lose fearless warhounds but get a few fearless marine units, you lose the exellent fast attack choices and get something a bit different, you have a slightly shorter range on average but greater resilance in the case of failure. So you can be more aggressive and have a chance when it goes wrong rather than perhaps the more careful series of air and warhound attacks that characterise the current codex army.

You keep saying 'ironwing', what is that supposed to mean again?

Ironwing is an old reference to a force composed of Dark Angels Dreadnoughts.

Ha, at this point I get to be all cliquey and ignore you foolish mortal who has not wasted many years playing Epic from its first stompy Titan incarnation and vaguely keeping up with 40k fluff!

On a different note at one time GW went 'Wing' mad. Deathwing. Ravenwing. Ironwing. The ironwing was simply the name for the chapters armour formations. no special rules, just a different name. Shoehorning in an upgrade called this is simply a nod to the past rather than any major design goal.

Not sure if it was dreds though ben, certainly my 2nd ed force cards don't think so.

I'd only ever heard the term connected with Dreadnoughts but a quick google tells me that it is actually associated with all Dark Angel Armoured units (or was once, anyway).

Sadly diverting from my above plea for an overview and going back to specific, in this case the ironwing I had thought to balance the pred variant by offering it alongside the vindicator (as a combined 'Ironwing' upgrade). However with better plasma weapons its superior to it, so one idea would be combining this with the desire for better hunter access - so Ironwing, 0-2 mix of hunter and pred, 50 points each.
You could go further and mix in the dred upgrade which works in a way to put further pressure on hunter choices to ensure they don't run away with themselves (2 mortis dreds and a hunter is a mean garrison force with some infantry).

But yes, your thoughts on the DA list niche?

In the first WD articles featuring Epic Space Marien Chapters the Dark Angels layout for 1st, 2nd and 3rd COmpanies where:

Quote:

1st Company: The Death Wing
0-2 Assault Detachments
0-2 Devastator Detachments
1-3 Terminator Detachments

2nd Company: The Iron Wing
0-3 Tactical Detachments
0-1 Support Weapon Detachments
0-1 Dreadnought Detachments
0-1 Robot Detachments
0-3 Armoured Detachments
0-1 Ordinatus Detachments

3rd Company: The Raven Wing
0-3 Skimmer Detachments
1 Recon Detachment
0-2 Bike Detachments

Terminators in the Death Wing do not count against the normal regimental maximum of twelve Terminator detachments. Devastator and assault detachments in the Death Wing may be made elite for a 20% increase intheir BR.
The Raven Wing is always deployed in the lead of the Dark Angels' advance. To represent this, units from the Raven Wing may begin a game an extra free move forwards of their set-up positions if desired.

Its powering up for a street fighter attack (note my rabid following of GW has meant pop culture has largely passed me by)?

No, having suffered a heavy blow, being low on health and otherwise looking miserable.

But it was a nice try!

Actually it's Cloud, main character in Final Fantasy 7, in his cameo appearance in Final Fantasy Tactics

I demand that we put them in the list!!!  :O

They could be a group of minors with only Plasma options.
