[preamble]Having won a couple of things on eBay lately I thought about a new chapter, for the son. He got into 40k and ran Black Templars.
The ones won included Mk4 Land Speeders and Rhinos and six(!) detachments Sword Brethren... And then another two Thunderhawks, making them three Mk4.
[/preamble]

Having read the army list (and sworn over missing devestators and whirlwind) I'm starting to like it.

One thing is why there seem to be a trouble phrasing transport regulations. Why not just do as usual? Add what you want of Land Raider's and Razorback's, then fill up with Rhino's. What's wrong with that? 12 Rhinos in a detachment? Well, limit Neophytes to Rhino's. They are still in training, right?

The Thunderhawk Transporter is another point of interest.
...and let's disregard Forge World illusions of grandeur...
It's an ordinary T-hawk pressed into transport service. They've binned most weapons in favour of cargo. And the original T-hawk carried 8 slots.
(The Landing Craft carries 12 AND 6 Rhino's.)
If we say that the Rhino is 4 slots and that gives the LaCra (the Crow?) 36 slots, could the TH-transporter have 24 in "vehicles"? Ie 6 Rhino's or 4 LS? Giving it one Land Raider or two Rhino's is just silly. INMHO...  :p
At least give it 3 Rhino or 2 Land Raider.

We can't really let them dictate things. They have no say in the matter and has shown no responsibility regarding Epic either.
They produce what they believe will sell, period.
And then makes new scales (plural!) of their own, to confuse the issue. Like to big vehicles, far to big flyers and to small Titans...

As I see it the transporter is carved out on the inside to accommodate more cargo.

i'm not really sure expanding the transport capacity would help, it's the 5+ RA that defines the usefulness, if you want to do the air assult bomb the Landing craft is better, THT are support craft

Thanks Erik M i hope people are liking the list and enjoying playing it, after all thats why I'm trying to get the list balanced and working.

oh yes i've reposted the list with a bit more language about Neophytes at the start of the army list.

but i'm still thinking about Sword Brethren and there stats

There's definitely no love lost between me and FW.  All evidence i've seen seems to point to a disregard for Epic as you say, mostly because it's a small market for them.

However, they work with the 40K design team and their stuff is official canon for all intents and purposes.  If we want any chance of being considered official or having the studio ever use anything we do, we're stuck with them.

House rules... do what you want.  It's your game.

It would help tremendously to make it 3 Rhino / 2 Land Raider. That mean you can actually make tactical use of it. As in landing a useful detachment...
(And not force people to use the Aeronautic Imperialis instead of the proper Epic one.)
And if we see a Rhino as four transport slots then there's no need to loose the Battle Cannon and 2x (long range) Twin Heavy Bolters and 4+ Armour. It would however loose FF (to 6+).

nealhunt ~ It's a world of difference between incorporate FW's game Aeronautic Imperialis's models into Epic and make use of those models they happen to make that fits into Epic.

Erik: The fact is that given the limited selection of models we have available, rejecting one because you dilike the cargo isn't really an option. If we had an alternative model, fine, but we don't. It's silly not to use the model when it's available.

I do see the problems people may have with THT's, but it's not like you have to take them in all armys that you want to take in order for the army to work :)) .

I mostly take them because i like the models and the with a few list i use them in, i think they fit, but i don't use them all the time and so hope people see them as a small part of the list that i think they are

Ok ok , fair enough.

Could we then perhaps have a Black Templar transport?
And leave that impossibly unusable FW one to less crusading chapters?

"Thunderhawk Transport is the main workhorse of any chapter. They are used to ferry marine armour and other support equipment from the orbiting space crafts down to a planets surface. Normally though they are not used on a hot landing zones as they lack heavier weaponry.
The Black Templars however cannot afford to leave the Transporter for only ferry duties, and so have devised a multi-purpose system for their Thunderhawks in general and bartered away most of their transporters with more traditional chapters to have more of their own three specialized kinds."

Because it's £34 and one use and no second hand market, whereas the T-hawk is had in multitudes and seem able to be multi-purpose built (as per the CAS and SB configurations).

Sorry but money was never a reason for me to come up with ideas for a new armylist.

And the Thunderhawk is simpyl to small to carry more than 2 Rhinos or 1 Land Raider.

They make a WHOLE Epic army plus TONS of other stuff! Some people on here act as if FW owes us something. They don't.

I think we're lucky that they still produce any Epic miniatures at all considering how unpopular this game is.

By the way the Transporter cost 23.50 and the Landing Craft is 34.25. That's a big difference.

If you don't like the price then don't buy it. Use a regular T-hawk and the "counts as" rule.

Can't use the "count as", as I plan to have other Thunderhawks too. And it's not to small at all. Not if some weapons are dropped. (Remember that aircraft are generally modelled smaller.)

No, FW doesn't owe us anything, and we them neither! And I can live without a company that make up their own scaleS and don't care one bit if it works with existing lines.
But sure, I would miss the opportunity to buy their Tau flights, those made for Epic. But that doesn't give me a hell o'lot of Tau vehicles, does it? Half is made for Epic and half is made for their own scaled game Aero~, right? Or am I wrong? Is that line all in Aero~ scale?
