We're devolving into generalize theory quickly but a competent guard player doesn't just schlep their Leman Russ formation off by themselves either. A Lone Russ formation will get avoided and needled to death. Marines are not known for their cheap arty so when facing Marines can operate in closer support than otherwise normal though care needs to be about not devolving into a giant disordered blob.

And yes... That damn commissar tank ;D

Yeah, the topic became a Terminatrs vs Russes one :D Just remember- there's always a chap Hydra with the Russes, to put that BM to the Thawk assault :D

So stick to the original topic: we'll see how the drop+termies+stormravens army work! The main question is the Stormraven I think, the others are well known..

Good points, all. I'm glad my post touched off some discussion / debate.

When I die, let it be said of me "That Xenocidal Maniac! He always sparked vigorous discussion regarding the merits of one faction of very small toy soldiers versus those of another faction of very small toy soldiers! He shall be missed!"

But, yes, we should probably bring things back on topic.

I should very hopefully be getting a playtest game in with the Sanguinary Guard in the next week or so.

Question on the Stormraven Gunship. Under the notes it states - Transport: (May carry 1 Dreadnought; plus 1 Blood Angels Terminator unit or 2 of the following Blood Angels units: Assault, Death Company Assault, Death Company Tactical, Devastator, Scout or Tactical).

I am correct that the carrying of the Dreadnought is effectively free if you are transporting troops?

Plus, to make it very clear to myself - If I take 4 Death Company Assault & 2 Dreadnoughts how many Stormravens do I need?

They do duct tape the Dread on the outside of the flying brick, so I assume they're transported similar to how Grotz are transported on battlewagons.

Yes, the Dreadnought is free! :) There are some pics about Dreads transported under the tail of the Stormraven -outside of course! It's just for the sake of pure powergamers :D

Yeah there's some handwavium based device about the dreadnoughts in 40k :)

At CHS they at least modeled something for it.to slot into

Thanks guys, that gives me an extra 100pts for my test list as I can drop two Stormravens.

However with my additional points I'll add a further Dreadnought to my Death Company and as I'll now be short a transport slot I have to add back in a Stormraven

I'm thinking about taking the following list in my next game in order to playtest the Sanguinary Guard -

4 Devastators, Drop Pods

SPACECRAFT [200]
Strike Cruiser

PREDATORS [350]
4 Baal Predator, Blood Angels Hunter

PREDATORS [275]
4 Predator Annihilator

THUNDERHAWK [200]

ASSAULT DETACHMENT [325]
6 Assault Units, 2 Assault Units

SCOUT DETACHMENT [200]
4 Scouts, 2 Razorback (Lascannon)

What do you all think?

The idea is that everything aboard the Spacecraft drops Turn 1 and establishes a beach head in the enemy deployment zone or close to it, takes out AA. The Baals push forward and set up crossfires. The Assault squad in Thunderhawk strikes at a weak point or supports, as necessary. The scouts guard the Blitz / act as a reactionary unit as necessary.

I like it. Ever think about swapping the Brick for a lander and dropping the armour in as well? Incidentally that's the only way I can seem to make redeemers work unless you're facing infantry hoards

That's a great idea, and might be a better use of points. I generally try to only use units that I actually have models for, and I don't have a lander model. But I might be able to come up with a decent proxy for playtesting purposes. I would much rather drop the armor instead of starting it out separately.

Nice list, but a bit air-light for my taste :D If you plan to air assault, you need at least 1 formation of Tbolts to assist.

How about 6assaults+2furioso, instead of +assault? They will be slower, but if you sacrifice the dreads after the first engagement, it's not a problem anymore!
