[NetEA] Iron Hands (Experimental)

Here's another version that should work with what's in your army right now and is pretty close to an what I'd consider an IH Mechanized force.

Iron Hands Clan, Tacticals, Rhinos [300]
Iron Hands Clan, Tacticals, Rhinos [300]
Dreadnought Phalanx, Venerable Dreadnought, Hunter [375] Garrison, Forward AA
Dreadnought Phalanx, Great Council, Hunter [375] Garrison, Forward AA
Predators [250]
Bikes [200]
Whirlwinds [300]
Strike Cruiser [200]
Warhound Pack, [500]
Storm Talon [200]

What I really like about this is the flexibility it gives as you can choose at setup to pod the clans / dreds into play or garrison and use the nasty 24BM swallowing clans in tandem with each other. When podding, especially against guard, force corner setup, bring the the Cruiser in T1 with the orbital barrage right up on them all bunched up, follow through with pods and shock assault. This is very Iron Handsy almost to the point of the the same strategy taken at the Isstvan V Dropsite Massacre so take that how you please :)

If guaranteed not to pod, then switch to
drop the strike cruiser, give each clan a single razorback (plasma) and/or a Land Raider and get the 26BM (that's insane)

Hm, I don't have any Predators, and I don't really know what to use for Storm Talons (not really up to scratchbuilding them, I'm afraid). I do have a nice set of Vindicators; don't they fit well, temperamentally?

Can you put the Great Council in a formation without a Venerable Dread?

No. I just stuck it on the wrong clan. Let's PM about getting you some predators, k? :)

Any flyer will work as a proxy. I personally use my thunderbolts for Storm Talons. :D

And those vindis should work just fine in the mean time.

Just checking if I understand this list right: The cheapest possible Clan would be Six Tacticals, right? You've Got to take at least one of the upgrades?

[edit] the Attack Bike upgrade is not detailed. I take it you can replace bikes with assault bikes at will, for free?

Correct. A clan is 4 tacts + at least 1 upgrade, the additional tacts being the cheapest.

Then use them! To me they are spot on with the Iron Hands fluff.
I just though whirlwinds, barrage titans and vindicators was a little to much "anti-infantry" for an all-round army.

I also use the stuff I own and like even if it isn't optimal. I have no problem with proxies but try to avoid them myself (right now I am "forced" to proxy the Storm Talons by the evil army champion if I want to include aircraft but that's it :) )

Vindicators are growing on me of late, I'm using them for a lot of FF prep & supporting attacks. My other thought for my iron hands was to include a significant number of razorbacks and land raiders in the clan and heavy infantry formations.

With dreadnoughts I really want to pod or fly them on as it just doesn't feel right using them in a garrison role but in game mechanics it seems to be the best place.

No, but it seems that the gist of it must be filtering out to the Lexicanum an Wikia articles.

On that note, I've been looking at the Clan Raukaan OOB chart, and noted that the Iron Hands appear to have institutionalized Terminator Sergeants. Wouldn't it be a useful and fluffy addition to the list to be able to represent them, for instance

Available as an upgrade to an Iron Hands clan, replacing up to three tactical units for free.


It's a fairly low-powered upgrade, trading a slightly improved CC ability (from a single power sword/power fist) for the loss of rhino transportability. It would synergize well with Iron Fathers, though, and motivate using Land Raiders for transports.

It would also be a nicely distinctive Iron Hands specific unit to model, with 4 tactical marines and a Terminator on the stand.

OK, will read some wiki then :)
I think the veterans already in the list is an attempt to symbolize the use of terminators as sergeants among tacticals. interesting suggestion though and my veterans is already a mix of terminatorn and marines and it looks good :)

Yes, but the statline of the veterans is the same as a full terminator unit, which is fitting enough for Clan Commanders retinue, but it doesn't fit a single terminator added to a tactical unit. Also, with the upgrade structured as "+2 veteran officers unit", terminators can become rather plentiful in the army, somewhat contrary to the stated intention.

I'd suggest making the Veteran Officers a replacement upgrade for a Terminator Sergeant unit (so a clan could have 3 terminator sergeants, or 2 terminator sergeants and 1 veteran officers), costing +50 or +75 points.

Aha, now I understand. (Then it will be like a special iron hands marine unit instead of terminators?)
Hopefully I'm not to boring but I kind of like the solution we have now (if we only can settle for a ordinary terminator - teleport ;) ).
First is simple, no new statlines etc. and a formation consists of several tactical squads so fluffwise we can imagine the sergeants hanging out together? ;D
Not sure we will see a lot of terminators among the Iron Hands, probably as often as we see terminators with landraiders in codex marine armies...
Might be a risk for abuse with planetfalling armies though but I don't think that will be a problem right now.

But on the other hand why not add some more flavour?
It might be fun:)
