Do you want to spend the first two turns out of a possible three turn game just positioning your troops for the expected drop?

The fun of tournament play to me is pitting yourself against another player not playing bluff and double bluff over where things are going to land.

Hmmm...that is an interesting tactical approach....I did aggrivate my Marine opponent one time by keeping my whole army off the board during the first turn....he didnt have any thing to shoot at! ?You do sacrifice that first turn, but you force your opponent to deploy without knowing where you will drop. ?Fun to do once in a while, keeps em off balance. ?:D

In the July tournament, Corey kept his Necrons offboard on Turn 1. ?I'm pretty sure he was trying to avoid the "Turn 3 wilt" problem. ?That, and it gave his opponents (like me) a chance to make the mistake of breaking out of their castle deployment.

My SMs (Space Wolves - they were the Drop Rgt in SM1) are, deployed by Drop Pods, T-hawks and Dropships/Landing Craft ... ?Troops and Dreads in Pods and T-Hawks and everything else in Dropships/LC ... ?An airborne air assault must be heavily supported by CAS(Close Air Support; ie. - Fighters and Fighter Bombers [T-bolts, etc.] ) and OBS/OWP (Off Board Support/Orbital Weapons Platforms; ie. - SM1 OBS rules [we still use these excellent rules !] which = OWP - Spacecraft, distant FA, even Naval Gunfire !). ? DZs/LZs must be preped and supported by CAS/OWP, thru out ... which based on E:A (which is what we would use) is 1/3 of your total battle force points. ?It works but sometime an air assault is risky ... like in real life ! ?If you don't want to take the risk use an IG Tank Co/Bn ... they can survive a lot of bumbling by a "marginal" commander ... :;):

I've played against necrons where they all (except orb) teleported in second turn. It was enjoyable. The calm before the storm feel so to speak.

At various times I have played against this type of thing as well. Turn 3 Battle Barge. This was good for testing the rules and we had some good banter, but as for a game well if given the list I could have solo played the game.

Less banter but a quicker finish. :;):
