Librarians are a good choice for tacticals, they have good staying power to support other assaults and they exploit the choice between MWCC and MWFF the librarian has.

I like Librarians in Bikes Detachments.

Sorry I forgot the all powerful bike formation :)

I also use Librarians in Land Speeders as they are more often supporting formation.

Ooh, that's a good one. I never thought of that. A little too much 40K setting my paradigms.

I've looked at it, but found the idea of an extra FF5+MW attack being not worth the points; I can't recall any tournament lists with Librarian Land Speeders doing particularly well.

I used to put Librarians in Speeders regularly.  Yeah, they are only 5+FF but they will be within 15cm range almost every turn.  They are awesome for double move/support combos.  I think my record is supporting 5 assaults in one game against Nids, but 2-3 is normal.  Volume makes up for the lower FF value.

I have, however, started using them more with Bikes.  They don't have shoot/support option, but they have good CC and FF.  The Librarian gets to fight either way and the support is a little stronger.

But back on topic, yes, I agree that any LR option with a high FF value is a no-brainer for a Librarian.

It's an odd idea, which is probably why it appeals to me. However, I also don't equate tournament lists with the be all to end all. Do keep in mind that some people (ahem), play non-tourney sized games in which different factors and units impact the meta-game.

But when designing lists tournaments should be the be all and end all as the idea is to balance the lists, nothing more. Players who are not concerned with that should only be using the lists as a guide anyway and enjoying their scenarios. Its the difference between playing and playtesting.

Oh, I quite agree. In order to balance a list, some standard must be set and the 2700/3000 point in a list is what a majority of people play and that is what the list should be tuned to.

However, as you get up in points 4K, 5K, etc (even played a 11K/side game once), the dynamics of a list change considerable, especially if you increase the playing area. Then units that were so terrible at 2.7K/3K tend to not be so incredibly terrible and with more resources available, individual mistakes tend to be less unforgiving.

Also, we were not really discussing balance, it had more to do with whether or not a particular configuration of units added value.

I don't think playing at larger point games means you throw out the list and just do whatever you want. Lists are scalable and in fact some (i.e. SM) adopt a completely different character when played at higher points.

No need to throw out the baby with the bath water.

Wasn't this about a Land Raider variant? Anyho...

I personally love the idea of an alternate list where you get to use stuff like this that you'd have to convert. Like the Sabre Tank Hunter, a Rhino variant that has a massive (appears to be bigger than a Demolisher Cannons) Auto-cannon. Or heck, even some of the older variants of the Land Raider, with a bolter and two lascannons as opposed to the Twin Heavy Bolter and twin LCs (the Hellfire/original LR). Also, the Helios is awesome.
