Personally I think it very much is a modern reinterpretation of the knight concept.

Yep. I can see an unarmoured pilot behind some kind of cabin. Replace one arm with a Chainsword an one with a big gun and you have a Knight Paladin.

Based on the pictures on the GW website of this thing standing next to a rhino, a land raider, and a trygon, I'd say that the dreadknight is about the right size to base a paladin conversion on. I think you'd have to shift the position of the pilot up a bit (and maybe have him sitting down like a sentinel driver) then model most of the cabin as a head and you're good to go.

Of course, you'd also have to replace the upper arms, the lower leg armor, and the toes along with both hands. Otherwise, you'd still be able to tell that the style doesn't look imperial (has anyone else mentioned that?)

No, it's about half the size, got to see em in the flesh on the weekend.
It's about the size of a terminator standing on top of a dreadnought (many hilarious piggyback conversions ensue) with a touch more height on top- i'd say a knightworld paladin (let's not get confused with grey knights paladin terminators) is about back high to a warhound titans head in scale, definitely nothing like the dreadknight.

And in the flesh there are many visual identities in linbe with imperial warmachines particularly bits of forgeworld/venerable dreadnought in the exhaust stacks, reaver titan in the legs and shoulders- but, fluff wise, it is a depature from the standard dogmatic imperial designs of metal boxes, due to the grey knights 'interesting' dealings with the adeptus mechanicus in acquiring technology perhaps not based from the usual STC and rather more 'offworld' in origin. So yeah, kinda implying that it takes design principles from xenos robot design and admechifies it...

On playtesting, had an interesting game yesterday versus a virgin eldar player, it was an easy (ish!!) win due to him learning how to play eldar but I was able to ascertain more of what is balanced for points and what is not and made some appropriate tweaks and changes. I look forward to running some more testing tomorrow, and I will probably be on track for a list release on ~April 9th

Imperial Henchmen formations-

Currently in this list they are 200 points for 8 units with a generic mixed henchmen statline (plus a leader/cc MW inquisitor character), for garrison, objective seeking or activation purposes, with only transport upgrades allowed.

Inf | mv 15cm | A6+ | CC5+ | FF5+ | weapons- | 30cm | AP5+/AT6+

I'm wondering whether that should be changed or extended to downgrade the basic henchmen slightly, but allow upgrading of up to four stands to assassins or gun servitor stands (maybe 25pt/stand upgrade costs), or to allow addition of dreadknights/dreadnoughts to the formations. I do not currently use gun servitor or assassin stands in the list, but they would be shootier and choppier options.

This would allow them to be more useful formations in on their own, and use more options from the codex. But I am just not sure that they would play out the perceived role of the unit: the inquisitors faithful relying on the intervention of the grey knights to complete the mission. and cheaply :-)

...AAAND just to hold a conversation with myself: after pondering designing and reviewing the thought, I don't think this list needs more detailed henchmen formations beyond the basic ones. The basic ones die for Malcador, but adding stronger options on them would just end up polluting the mix of strong troops formations versus how activation/objective muppets are used.

Probably 2 weeks to list release! My pool of test miniatures has expanded to include 2 thunderhawk transporters, a marauder destroyer, a grey knights strike cruiser, 2 Aquila Landers and 6 Arvus Lighters. Forgeworld Areonautica casts are great right now, if you are considering buying some!!

Yes I may be developing a mental condition :S
I will post a build diary in painting section on the weekend for the models I have prepped so far for the tester forgeworld minis! the brass etched inquisition logo sheet is surprisingly useful for epic scale models, it has dressed up 3 thunderhawks, 2 aquilla and 6 arvus, with bits left on there to dress 8 rhinos when I get hold of them.

This thread is a bit long winded, so I have started a list release thread here:
