Nice write up.
How do you feel they fair when coming up against, say a Tank Legion? (I'd expect to go heavy on the Assault Rams then myself)

Surprisingly well.

The last game I played last weekend was against an almost entirely mechanized IG force. He used his death strike missiles at the start of the game to take out my two assault rams, so I just had to deal with not having them. In my first activation I air assaulted with T-hawk and assault troops and sent infantry running.....leaving absolutely nothing for my AP shots to hurt....everything else was an AV or titan and I had virtually no AT shots!

But I could still use my sniper shots to lay BM and make it a little tougher for the armored formations to activate, my commandos could use their infiltrate to get in CC with enemy vehicles and rip them up, and both were able to use their ZOC to limit what those tanks could do.

It may be worth noting that my opponent was just getting back into the game after a long break, but he was very good and made virtually no mistakes that I saw. Once I did my airborne assaults and broke/destroyed his formations so I had an advantage in activations, I was able to maneuver around enough to do what I needed to do to win.

After taking a few months off from the RG, I got to play with them on thursday night against the Lost and the Damned.

For a while there it really didn't look good for the RG....horde armies are really scary to look at, at he start of game. And my commandos and snipers didn't perform very well. But at the end of turn 1 my attack with assault marines via Thunderhawk took out one large unit of troops, then at the start of turn 2 some terminators teleported in and removed another large unit. That, and two units of marauder bombers, let me keep the pressure on and my opponent had horrible luck trying to rally broken units.

No one had any victory conditions at the end of turn 3, but there were almost no unbroken LatD units left at the start of turn 4 so we called it there.

With my snipers and commandos doing do badly, I didn't win the way I wanted to win, but I'll take it.

Hi,
Is anyone still running with this list? Is it still in development? The list seems to have a great scout focus but not really raven guard specific. I would think to see maybe access to larger aslt formations? Also I'm not sure why they get an CC 3 and sacrifice on the FF to 5?

I know with the 30k rules we have been rolling with both fire raptors and storm eagles as aircraft rather than skimmers. Has there been any moves to incorporate this more broadly into epic armageddon?
Cheers
Jim

I don't believe this is under active development. Which is a bummer considering how interesting this list is. I'd love to see it move back into dev.

The 40k lists have worked the StormTurkey in as AC (several lists have them or are considering them) due to the fact they kinda are the non-we marine assault transport alternative to the TBrick. The FireTurkey, largely due to the insane dakka the twin VAC puts out makes it OTT against the rest of the flyers in existence (or requires such a nerf as to not even be recognizable anymore). It's been slotted into only the Hawk Lords list so for in EA as was done as a skimmer formation and even then, I consider it massively experimental and a fan-list ATM.

In the HH epic work from Fatdex the Fireturkey is internally balanced as they focus on the interlegionary war and basically everyone has access to the same gear so they work as AC there.

Is Neal still the AC for this list?

Some good points above JZ but I still don't buy into this whole new marine AC are OTT fear mongering that seems to come out every time a new AC appears.. That's why we have a points system after all.

I know the 30k stuff is some what self limiting and internally balanced but everything still has to be costed appropriately. If not then people will just gravitate towards the same builds. We've been playing 30k a fair bit lately and made a number of recommendations to fattdex on points modifications.

I guess there is a bit of internal balance in the legion list but the Thunder hawk is still a slightly better option when you absolutely need to shirt front a formation... The storm eagles are good and provide some increased flexibility but by word you do pay for it.

It would be nice to see the raven list stepped up again. Is Neal still the AC? Would Ortron be willing to take it on? You've been doing some pretty hectic playtesting for iron hands and salamanders and squats and sann haim lists... fancy taking a tilt at the sligh ravens?

hahah.. is that now an approved international term for close range aggression?

Happy to have a crack at a sub AC role, but only if someone isn't already looking after it? The issue will be consistency, as work is likely to be an impact next year. In saying that I have a number of ideas on the raven guard I'd like to try.

Hopefully Dobbsy or someone else will get on and give us the low down on Neal or whomever is running with it.

Cheers

Jimmy Zimms,

I never figured you for a nay sayer bro. I think that with Ortron and the gang we can get some testing done and work on the list and see what we come up with. I think the important thing is rather than say NO to something, it requires testing to prove the point. Comparing the unit to other aircraft at this point is ineffective, it has a role that sits outside the standard aircraft seen in epic at this point.

Jeffy, show us what you got mate, lets see this thing moving again and in a new not nerfed format.

Cheers
A

Not to take the thread OT but my point is more a Realpolitik thing, mate. The vehicle would be so controversial that it'd split the community and as you know, lists don't test themselves :) I'm actually closer to the AC reboot camp myself in personal desires. I just care that AC is proportionally poweed to each other from the 28mm source.

Back to this list: I've asked Dobbsy to list out what lists lack an AC on the marine list thread. I'm pretty sure this is effectively abandoned. It'd be smashing if Orton could pick that up. I do love me some land speeders :)

Edit: Just checked: NH hasn't logged on for just shy of a year now.

It's a pretty simple solution. NH is long absent and doesn't look as though he will return any time in the future. If Ortron or somebody else would like to take on this list as subbie then step forth and be knighted :)

Where does one sign up? Is there a good dental plan? Do my leave days transfer over...

Dobbsy, I suggest you offer it up to the world to make sure we don't offend any other interested parties however I'm keen. My support to the various other marine lists has been somewhat haphazard so this would focus my attention and I'm a bit of a RG nut...

ortron - It only offers a 1.5% pay increase over 3 years ;)

I'll open a thread to ask for general applications

Oh.. haha.. good from you..

Cheers, I've been spit balling a few ideas with the lads over the week on tweaks or changes to this list. I note when Neal did the initial creation of this list there wasn't a huge amount of official GW guidance on the RG. Nowadays we have new 40k material as well as the excellent black library and forgeworld heresy books to flesh out the RG back story, preferred method of warfare and a bunch of other stuff.

I'm away for a few days but should be back on the weekend. if you call for Sub AC applications consider me in. I'll try and keep an eye on the thread.

Cheers

Give a whirl at the Orton spin on the list regardless, mate. Nothing wrong with making it a fan list even if you don't end up taking the role. Also, I see some thematic dovetailing with the Raptors considering I've always seen it as a specific application of the RG list (Raptor being a successor and they play style being RG ambush) consider me onboard.
