Currently Marines benefit from allied aircraft with the benefit of the increased SR.

A formation of Thunderbolts in a Marine army is more useful than in an Imperial Guard army. Due to this, and seeing Marines are using IG assets, why should the Marines not pay a +25 point premium on their aircraft?

In effect, all the discussion on Warhounds has seen them go up to 300 points. Now people state this will not effect list builds as Tac Marines are swapped out for Devs. If you also increase air costs however, would we not see new list builds emerge?

The problem that I see are the allied formations. A +25 point increase will be enough of a hit that 1 less formation of Thunderbolts or another formation will be effected. From there, with (hopefully) more enticing vehicle options, we may start seeing a move away from the one standard that people see a problem with.

While some other lists have to up the cost of using formations found in other lists with less SR, Marines seem to bypass such things even though they have the superior and largest variance in SR benefit by using these assets. The ability to enact CAP on a SR 5 far surpasses any use that the IG have for their own assets.

The suggestion of upping Thunderbolt costs is certainly on the table.

I wouldn't up the cost of Marauders, rather I'd suggest dropping their cost for the IG...

Rather than upping the cost of all allied formation wouldn't it be more simple to lower the percentage for allied formations from 25% to 20 or even 15%?

The percentage for allied formation in Codex Marines is currently 33%.

I'd agree on upping the Thunderbolt cost.

Need to be very specific what you are increasing here - the Allied air (TBolts, Mauraders) or the Marine air (THawks, LC and Space craft).

Changing Marine air power has been suggested in various forms in the past, but resisted because it is really core to the Marines. Allied air poser (TBolts) could be increased, though I am with E&C that Marauders don't need it, and could even be made a fraction cheaper.

Thunderbolts would be a start, purely for the fact that they can CAP. Too much of an advantage for Marines to remain at their cheaper cost.

Have we taken into account they still have a 2+ initiative with that SR5? You can go first but you don't always activate. Tau airpower are the kings of this BTW - it's where I learned a lot about air power not "being there" when you need it.

SR2 is not the issue. The SR is what allows them to go first. The initiative is the same across lists

Well both the SR and the initiative allow that. I think I'm in the "reduce the percentage allowed" boat for this debate - if this is even truly necessary - and I don't think it really is. All of a sudden the Tbolt in a marine list is a problem? Hardly.

;D If only you didn't need that roll for more pressing matters when called for....

TBH I don't think Tbolts (or Barracudas for that matter) are really a problem whether they go first or not. They have minimal effect other than to place BMs more often than not. They aren't a game winning unit by any means.
