Hello! We recently played a battle between necrons and squat for the epic.fr campaign. It was a 3000 points game, although the squat player got 50 extra points for upgrades (campaign bonus). DEPLOYMENT ![]() As you can see, i only deployed a basic phalanx and the Abbatoir, reserving almost all of my army. The turn was fairly easy: the squats rushed forward (or tried, because they failed tons of activations). The abbatoir and the gyrocopters exchanged fire and the squats broke. Responding to this maneuver, the goliath megacannons answered with their fire, scoring one damage point and breaking the abattoir, which razed forward towards the tactical infantry. ![]() At the start of turn 2 5 monoliths popped up, but then 2 of them got a 1 on their teleport roll and disappeared inmediately. I won the initiative and began launching assaults. Most of the squat troops came back and began poundering against the necrons. The airships tried to kill the abattoir but only managed to take another structure point out of it. The abattoir answered by charging against the goliaths, which were totally obliterated. Extrangely enough, one of the nearer guild bikers managed to take another damage point out of it. |

The Battlefield at the start of turn 3: ![]() This turn degenerated in a melee with charges all round. Necron?s fire concentrated in the airships, while the necron infantry took most of the toll in the other side(the squat player sent two intact phalanx just out of the battlefield, and the leviathan?s fire destroyed 2 destroyers and broke the remainder of the unit). A band of berserkers charged against a phalanx which was surrounding a monolith, and got annhilated (i think it was mostly because of the 4+ save of necrons, and the lord and pariah which were present). Curiously enough, the phalanx had to phase out... At the end of the turn there was only an airship left (after being charged by the abattoir) while the abattoir had just one more structure point remaining. But the worst of it all was the concentration of troops present at "Death Square" ![]() Perfect for assaulting...but, who would win the strategy roll? |

Start of Turn 4: ![]() The dices rolled and... i won! we both got a draw, and as the squat had seized the initiative last turn it was my turn. So i assaulted the remaining airship with a formation "from inside" the abattoir. With all the support fire the airship disappeared in a ball of fire. Retaining the iniative, i tried to charge the Leviathan with the abattoir: i rolled and... got a 4! The abattoir set a suicide course towards the Leviathan, and both resulted destroyed in the ensuing melee. ![]() As i was controlling the squats blitz objective, he tried once and again to charge against my troops. I told him that it was a suicidal tactic, to which he answered "don?t worry. All my army is made up of berserkers!". At the end, supporting fire from the two close positioned phalanxes was enough to retain the objectives. In the end, 3 - 1 for the necrons (and at last i had used my necron army!) |

Thanks for the Batrep! Which Squat list was used? FYI Necron Monoliths do not fade out automatically if they fail their activation. The teleport causes a Blast Marker which causes the formation of 1 to break. It remains there broken on the board until the end of the turn when (during the rally phase) it is removed. Removing it beforehand adds a boost to the Necrons in that their broken formations can't be targetted, which is not the case. I am not sure if the one Monolith would have made a difference in this game, but with things as close as they were.... ![]() |

Nah, not really: i mean, i only sent 2 formations out in the second turn, and one of them came from the Abattoir. Also, the Squat player left most of the monoliths untouched, so i don?t think that made a big difference this time (although i will record it for next time, because as you said that can be a big difference). And yes, the game was very very close, with the massive assaults against "Death Square" and the Abbatoir suicidal charge being the keys of the battle. I will ask CH which list did he use, because i don?t really know |
