Just a question for the Necron Lords: Do you ever decide *not* to take Pariah's in your Phalanxes? At 40 points, I can't see why you wouldn't: inspiring, good attacks, good armour, what's not to love? I think their stats are great and very reflective of their elite nature, but 40 points seems low to me; they are, effectively, a no-brainer. |

I always take as many as I can (I only have 2, though... need to make more). As you said, at 40 points they are a no-brainer. Their stats are irrelevant, though, as all I need them for is their "Inspiring" ability. |

I like them in Phalanxes, but never take them in anything else. They remove the speed-benefits of Infiltrators from the Venator formation, after all. Which isn't a BIG issue when you use portal-attacks, but I like being able to actually reach enemies after they leave the portal as well... They are quite nice, though, but I wouldn't consider them all that fantastic compared to, say, a Space Marine Chaplain. Chaplain costs 10 more points, gives Inspiring and adds Leader to the unit. Has the same MW ability basically... The only place the Pariahs win out is that they add actual size to the unit. But they also tend to be the first to die given their prefrence to melee compared to the rest of the unit. |

Unless Inspiring costs well over 50 points, it's going to be a no-brainer for any assault formation. |

I use to think they were a no-brainer, too. But then I realized that they do not have the "Necron" ability, so once they are dead, you can not get them back. Unless I am reading that wrong? |

That's correct. The Pariahs are not 'true' Necrons. They're supposed to be heavily cybernetically augmented humans with the Pariah gene, which makes them have a null-existence in the Warp. It's very unsettling to others around them, and drastically reduces enemy Leadership in 40K scale. Hence the Inspiring effect. It's more like 'Uninspiring' against the enemy. They don't really make your troops fight harder, they make the enemy more likely to run away and lose their morale. |

No, they don't have Necron, so they're gone when killed. ?They still have CC/FF3+, so you don't *have* to get them in to base to be effective. ?They usually sit back and firefight in our games, unless there's something that *really* needs to be taken out. Scarier combo: Lord added to a Pariah in an Venetor formation, just keep one Flayed One back and scout keeps everyone else in formation. |

Actually, I never place them in base-to-base contact: they are too precious to waste, even if that means I'm not using their MW attack. |

I do the same with my tryanid warriors. It doesn't matter how good they are in combat, they are too precious to lose. ![]() |

I've never seen Pariahs as no brainers. Their nice to have around if you are going to hit heavily armored opponents, but they aren't No-Brainers. Spyders are No-Brainers. ![]() |

Wow! In all the games we've played, I think Tomb Spyders have been fielded once... in one formation. Being AVs they just get picked off out of the formation they're in, and never come back... |

Is that legal? I understood that upgrades were only allowed on the standard units in a formation, not on the upgrades?? |

Characters that come with a "core" formation have to be placed in a unit from that core formation, eg, the Phalanxes., or so I believe. When adding upgrades, such as with the Venetor formation, you can add a character to any unit in the formation, since you could, in essense, buy the other upgrades "first" and then add the Lord. |
