If for whatever reason, a formation moves to a portal and zooms off the board, but not all of the units in the formation can make it off the board, is the formation out of unit coherency?

I can think of a couple practical applications besides running away from meat.

Units that could not make it into the portal would be out of formation, and thus be destroyed.

Sacrifice some to allow the rest to escape...

But I suppose it would simplify matters by saying straight out that you can't use that trick unless all units in a formation can make it to the portal.

What practical uses have you thought of for it?

What practical uses have you thought of for it?

1. Putting units off-board that I wouldn't want attacked

2. This came from a 40K trick that I saw, so I don't know if it is relevant, but basically, the opponent placed a unit in front of the portal, thus blocking any units from escaping into the Monolith. Since infantry can move through infantry, then as long as you could get to the guy sticking his nose out, then you'd be able to escape.

3. Sticking a couple of units out of the portal to keep an opponent from getting into BtB.

They all sound gimmicky to me, but I was primarily interested in the possibility of not being out of unit coherency.

Thanx!
