I am in the process of entirely scratch building a necron army (I have about 60 or 70 warriors so far... they're fairly crude but painted up they look suitably robotic. Obviously their C'Tan was a Dr. Who fan... Hey! Maybe I could use a 28mm Dalek as a C'Tan model!). The problem I'm having now is figuring out how large other units should be.

Monolith: This is about the size of a landraider, only taller, right? Does it have to be pyramidal? I was considering pentagonal.

Destroyers: are these infantry sized or bigger? How about heavy destroyers?

Pylon: Is there a reason for the "cross section of a satelite dish" look? I'm not overly fond of it. And as a DC2 warengine it hould be, what, 3cm tall? 4?

Tomb Spiders: Rhino sized? bigger? Smaller? Can I get away with only 4 legs? (my girlfriend is arachnophobic...)

Obelisks: If the monolith is landraider sized, is a monolith rhino sized? Again I think I might play wih the design.

I'll post pics when I have at least prototypes of more bits and/or have picked a colour scheme...

Now all I have to do is find an opponnt willing to play against it in Manchester... :D

Monoliths should be a tall pyramid.  It's width should be about the same as the length of a Land Raider.  If you want to measure how tall, well, you should base that on the side of the warriors themselves.  It should be about 3-4 tims taller than a warrior.

Obelisks, should be the same width, but squat, and flat.

The Pylon is really an orbital power relay (which is why it looks sort of like a Satalite dish).  It should be about 25% taller than your monoliths.

C'tan can be as tall as you want really. Their size is totally dependent upon what they want to look like.  I made my Nightbringer by basing it off a Warhammer Fantasy Skeleton.

Tomb Syders are easy.  Take a 40k Necron Scarab, put on a square infantry base.  There you go.

Destroyers are easy to make by taking the 40k Scarab and puting on the front part the top half of an infantry model.  Heavy Destroyers are the same, just with bigger gun.  I used Mechwarrior Dark ages battle armor infantry for the top half.  It looks mechanical enough and has appropriate looking weapondry.

But really, when you are making the figures, all that matters is that your opponent and you are very clear about what each model is.

Here is a picture of WH40k Necrons for size comparison:

Destroyers and Heavy Destroyers have the same size but a different weapon.

maybe.

But then again they tend to ignore what we have for a list and make only what they want to make.

And it's too expensive to boot.
