I am in the process of basing my future Necron army and have a question related to the placement of the Lord characters. It seems that Lords can be added to any of the infantry bases (Warriors, Immortals, Pariahs, Flayed Ones, Wraiths). What assignent is most common? I am trying to create enough models for all conventional combinations.

I am aiming for
4 Warrior Phalanx (24 bases)
12 Immortal bases as upgrades (3 max per Phalanx)
4 Pariah bases as upgrades (1 max)
6 Wraiths as upgrades (3 max but I decided that I won't need this upgrade for every Phalanx)
1 Flayed Ones formation (6 bases - also useable as Phalanx upgrades)

So, the question is how many additional Lord bases I need. Worst case (for ultimate flexibility) would be:
4 Lords in Warriors
4 Lords in Immortals
4 Lords in Pariahs
4 Lords in Wraiths (if I assign 1-2 wraith per Phalanx and then put the Lord in those)
4 Lords in Flayed Ones (if I assign then as upgrades spread across all for Warrior formations)

That seems a bit excessive just for the sake of flexibility.

So:

A: Does anybody put Lords into Warriors bases?
B: Into Immortal bases?
C: Into Pariah bases?
D: Into Wraith bases?
E: Into Flayed Ones upgrades?
F: Into Flayed Ones formations?

Beyond "yes" or "no", it would also be nice to know how common such a placement is. For example, if Lords occassionally go into Immortals but usually elsewhere, I would only create one or two Immortal Lord bases "just in case".

Thanks

Have you thought of basing the lords separately so you can just drop them onto any base you want? If you do it that way you'd only need a half dozen or so normal ones and maybe 2-3 Destroyer lords.

I haven't played my necron army yet, but I would think that putting them with pariahs wouldn't be that smart, as they lack Necron? And afaik Flayed Ones aren't available as upgrades, only dedicated formations.

i have only been playing epic for a short time but my understanding is that with the infantry phalanaxes you get 6 bases of warriors with one of them with a lord and then add such things as immortals and such. so going by that all you will need is 4 bases of warriors with lords. as for the flayed ones formation you get 6 bases and have the option of adding a lord to 1 so for basing wise i just made 7 bases of flayed ones with one having a lord. thats as far as my knowlage goes at the moment i hope that helps

The lord can be added to any of the units in the formation, he does not have to be assigned to a warriro base. I have only placed them in Immortals because they have a better FF value than the Warriors (helping the extra attack that the Lord throws in) and if you should need to get that MW CC attack in, the Immortals are a bit better there as well.
I did not include them in Wraiths because if you throw them into CC they are going to (most likely) be the first casualty you have to take, losing the Lord.
I also did not inclulde one in my Flayed one formation because they either die quickly or teleport in no where near the front line. :)

Basically, if you use Immortals then there's no reason not to stick the Lord in there. Otherwise, stick 'em in the warriors.

I made 7 bases for my flayed ones and destroyers (6 normal + 1 with lord), and I'm planning on having 4 warrior phalanxes and one extra stand, so 3 with lords and 22 without. As yet I've painted 9 Immortal stands, 3 with lord and 6 without. This way I got full flexibility if I field 3 or less phalanxes, while I'll have to stick 2 lords with warriors if I go to 4 phalanxes. I'll have to paint up another 3 Immortals if I want to run 4 phalanxes with full Immortal allotment, which I doubt I'll need in the foreseeable future.

Thanks guys. This is really helpful. I will make 4 Warrior Lords, 4 Immortal Lords, a Flayed Ones Lord and a Pariah Lord just for kicks...

i have pariah-lords for the extra CC bonus, and the fact that it means i only need one stand into close combat if i need to MW stuff (such as superheavies)
otherwise it hangs back (since it would be doing that to protect 'inspiring' anyway)
though i must admit that i hadnt considered the lack of necron rule at the time of building.
